QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technology-related field or equivalent experience/certifications.
  • Minimum of five years of IT experience, with at least three years in substantial systems administration roles.
  • Proven experience managing virtualized and physical server environments, primarily Windows and Linux.
  • Proven experience managing directory services.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, deploy, and administer Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS deployments via multiple systems and methods.
  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Willingness to occasionally work outside regular hours.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as deemed appropriate and acceptable by the District.

  • REPORTS TO: Enterprise Services Manager

    OVERVIEW: Join our dynamic Technology & Innovation team as a Systems Administrator. In this role, you will be responsible for deploying, administering, and maintaining the Iowa City Community School District's IT infrastructure, including on-premises servers, cloud-based services, and instructional platforms. You will collaborate with system and network administrators, client services staff, and data/research teams to support educators and students district-wide. The ideal candidate is a driven, tech-savvy professional with a commitment to the district's mission, innovation, and public service.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to all District policies and procedures.
  • Support and maintain optimal performance of both operational and instructional platforms.
  • Plan, design, develop, test, integrate, and analyze system performance and availability across networks.
  • Implement new Technology & Innovation initiatives.
  • Configure new and existing services to meet the needs of key stakeholders.
  • Perform upgrades and patches for servers, applications, and platforms.
  • Serve as a backup for key functions handled by other systems administration staff.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of emergency recovery plans for critical IT systems.
  • Engages in continual learning and professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Comprehensive understanding of IT principles and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with directory management (e.g., Active Directory, Classlink OneSync, Google Admin), virtualization platforms (e.g., vSphere), MDM platforms (e.g., JAMF Pro), vulnerability scanning and patching (e.g., Manage Engine Endpoint Central), backup solutions (e.g., Veeam), or equivalent systems.
  • Proficiency with scripting (e.g., PowerShell).
  • Expertise in managing enterprise server and application infrastructure.
  • Ability to support, upgrade, and maintain servers and platforms. Including but not limited to: designing, testing, backup processes, and schedules.
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to maintaining data confidentiality.
  • Excellent documentation and customer service skills.


  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Full-time, twelve-month position with a salary and calendar established by the Board of Education.
  • Professional working hours that may extend beyond the typical workday.
  • Availability to respond to critical infrastructure issues at any time.
  • Compensation is based on education, experience, certification, and qualifications within the Senior Systems Admin range set by board policy 415.5. That range is an annual salary between 70,138 - 97,492.


  • EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy 411.7 Classified Employee Evaluation.
