Position Purpose
Advances the vision of Learning and Leading in Fort Worth ISD. Supports campuses, Teachers, Principals, and District Service Center staff in implementing a coherent PK-12 strategy to support all learners with a focus on secondary student engagement. Ensures that the Learning and Leading Division practices are designed to close achievement and opportunity gaps throughout the District in order to ensure equity for all students. Ensures appropriate support is provided to campuses through department personnel. Coordinate the Fort Worth ISD's School Counseling Program. Assist the assigned Director in implementing the Comprehensive Counseling Program for students on assigned campuses. Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive developmental guidance program for all students to promote student success and school completion as specified by law in the Texas Education Code Section 33.005.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Instructional & Program Management
- Executive leadership skills to lead and manage a large counseling program successfully
- Host monthly meetings for counselors that focus on the implementation of the counseling program; provide current information on counseling issues, discuss district policies and guidelines, and gather input from counselors.
- Ability to produce professional presentations, recognition events for students and staff, and develop marketing program
- Interpret data; lead data dives; provide professional development to increase counselor capacity to interpret and utilize data to support student achievement
- Work with the Director to develop a district calendar to include all counseling activities and information for students/parents.
- Exhibit strong crisis management skills and the ability to train counselors and administrators in crisis management
- Ensure that counselors are providing information on transition support, course selections, student/parent informational activities, advanced academics, extra-curricular activities, and elective opportunities
- Advocates for students, mediates and facilitates on behalf of student interests and needs.
- Coordinate program delivery for school counselors to engage students in personalized education, career awareness, and college readiness activities (career day, guidance lessons, Education Go Get It Week, and so forth).
- Communicates effectively to disseminate information about students to other professionals as appropriate.
- Support Counselors in providing responsive, intentional counseling to students identified as needing additional support to address specific student outcomes and identified goals.
- Demonstrates an understanding of data driven decision making as it relates to student development and placement.
- Observes ethical standards of the Texas and the American School Counselor Associations.
- Pursues continuous professional growth and development to maintain current understanding of procedures and best practices in the field of professional school counseling.
- Performs counseling related responsibility aligned with the Texas Education Code and the FWISD Guidance and Counseling Framework
- Coordinates the development and delivery of the Guidance and Counseling programs that incorporate District goals and support student achievement.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings to gauge the Counseling Services program effectiveness; plans, and make recommendations for adjustments, as needed.
- Provide leadership and coordination in the development of innovative counseling programs.
- Assist campus staff in the delivery of appropriate services for students with counseling needs.
- Support the delivery of crisis response services District-wide.
- Coordinates instructional support, curriculum writing, assessment, and development of professional learning for all stakeholders.
- Collaborates across departments/divisions to align research- based and culturally responsive curriculum, practices, strategies, and resources to support the needs of all student populations.
- Coaches and mentors staff to build leadership skills and leadership capacity within the Division.
- Leads professional learning regarding Student Engagement across the District along with other Learning and Leading personnel.
- Stays abreast of current research and trends in curriculum development and instruction.
- Communicates the latest developments in curriculum and innovative instructional techniques and programs to improve student achievement.
- Provides support for the Learning and Leading Division by housing curricular resources and internal documentation for professional learning.
- Provides support for the Learning and Leading Division around the Texas Model curriculum and the implementation of curricular initiatives.
- Analyzes instructional progress to evaluate progress toward program goals and gathers other significant data relevant to the success of initiatives, grants, or programs when applicable.
- Implements effective and efficient assessment systems and data collection processes that provide a record of baseline measures and track longitudinal trends.
- Implements extended learning and activities for students in collaboration with District personnel and the community.
- Monitors the impact of the Division through evaluating progress toward goals, and gathers other significant data relevant to the success of the work.
- Monitors goals, shares reports, and assists in developing action plans for achieving goals.
Safety
- Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
- Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in the work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.

- Familiarity with local, state, and national testing, ability to interpret testing data to support students

Minimum Required Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Certification/License:
- Eligible for a Valid Texas Counseling Certification required. Attainment of certification within six months is a condition of continued employment;
- Valid Texas Teaching Certification required;
- Valid Texas Counselor Certification required.
