Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
We are looking for a highly skilled Motorsports Propulsion Electronics Engineer to support GM's expanding sports car race programs and, to a lesser extent, GM's Performance Parts division. The ideal candidate will have specialized knowledge of Engine Management Systems (EMS) and extensive experience in electrical system design, build, and testing within the motorsports domain. As the subject-matter expert, you should excel in complex problem-solving techniques and be adept at developing, documenting, and improving procedures that ensure precision, quality, and efficiency.
You will be responsible for directing a small team of expert technicians to achieve success with critical deadlines. When necessary, you will provide hands-on support with wiring loom assembly and testing prioritizing immediate goals over predefined role boundaries. Occasionally, you will offer weekday or weekend off-shift support as needed for race events or to optimize the use of high-demand test facilities. This role demands a commitment to excellence and the ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.

What You'll Do
- Lead the electrical architecture for motorsports powertrain systems, including the design, assembly, and validation of wiring looms
- Determine requirements and specify sensors, injectors, ignition coils and various actuators for motorsport powertrain applications
- Algorithm, communications link, and calibration support for powertrain controls on dynamometer and in-vehicle
- Produce and maintain documentation of harnesses and processes for building, testing, and issue resolution
- Provide open and regular communication with the program managers, track support engineers, engine builders, and dynamometer team
- Partner with team of electronics technicians to establish and maintain stock of components required for harness and sensor building
- Powertrain control systems installation, setup, operation, troubleshooting, and results reporting for dynamometer powertrain tests to optimize efficiency, durability, weight and performance
- Bench setup and checkout of new or revised system software to assure readiness for engine, dynamometer and/or vehicle installation
- Create, save, and document changes to engine, driveline, data logger and telemetry setups and calibrations for sensors and configurations
- Document and troubleshoot components returned from the track or dynamometer to determine condition and failure analysis
- Maintain current LS&A (Loom, Sensor & Actuator) component lists

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent powertrain electronic experience
- 10 years minimum relevant industry experience
- Ability to specify and implement all wiring, sensors, actuators and control modules required to support powertrain operations and development for supported race programs
- Firsthand involvement using OEM or motorsports telemetry, engine and driveline control systems hardware, software and communication links (i.e. GM, Bosch, MoTec, TAG McLaren, MegaLine, Ethernet, CAN, RS232)
- Experience using OE automotive, industrial and mil spec wiring systems & hardware (USCAR, Packard, Tyco, Bosch, Deutsch and Amphenol)
- Familiarity with Visio or other software applications for creating wiring diagrams
- Flexibility to work independently and in teams while taking direction from stakeholders from multiple racing programs
- Ability to manage projects and deliver results on time while meeting rigorous specifications
- Exceptional organization and record-keeping skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to effectively adapt communication styles appropriate to the situation
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience building custom wiring looms for small electro-mechanical devices
- Experience wiring and maintaining aircraft electrical systems (military or civil)
- Experience building race engine looms
- Experience with engine combustion analysis and associated instrumentation
- Experience planning and directing the work of others
