Job Summary
Under the direction of the supervising technologists and Lab Director, the Neuro-Vascular Technologist (aka Transcranial Doppler Technologist) will perform transcranial Doppler exams taking place in the Vascular Lab or at the inpatient/ICU bedside.
Qualifications
1. Ensures quality, safety, and infection control standards are followed at all times.
2. Assesses the patient to determine if the patient is able to safely undergo the procedure, explains the procedure to the patient, and modifies the techniques as necessary to get the most complete and accurate exam possible. If modifications are made to standard procedure these changes are noted.
3. Performs transcranial Doppler ultrasounds in the outpatient clinic and on the inpatient floors efficiently and accurately and follows all documented protocols to include:
a. Transcranial Doppler ultrasound flow studies. Able to identify all vessels of the Circle of Willis and extracranial feeding vessels based on insonation window, depth, angle of insonation, and waveform morphology.
b. Determines the absence, presence and extent of disease. Determines areas of interest and documents images to provide the reading physician with information for the final report.
4. Ability to review images, analyze results, entering numeric values into the patient charts and aid in the finalization of reports preferred.
5. Trains junior personnel.
6. Complies with OSHA and JCAHO standards for Universal Precautions and electrical safety guidelines. Adheres to training regarding ethical responsibilities and confidentiality. Collaborate to review and update protocols and meeting with other role groups to discuss workflow and operations.
7.Schedules TCD ultrasound appointments
8. Inspects and maintains lab equipment for quality control.
9. Assists in data tracking, QA of billing and documentation files.
10. Performs other tasks as assigned.
Education
Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Neurosciences or related field

Previous TCD technologist experience in a hospital or rehabilitation
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of vascular anatomy, physiology, and pathologies.
- Proficiency in using vascular ultrasound equipment and associated software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, colleagues, and healthcare providers.
- Leadership abilities and the ability to mentor and guide junior technologists.
