Department Description
The Surgical-Oncology Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is comprised of 14 Critical Care beds. This area is a fast-paced, highly specialized unit providing exceptional quality care to critically ill adults with a wide array of surgical and high risk obstetrical disorders including those who undergo a variety of complex surgical procedures, interventional treatments, and advance research treatment modalities.
The Surgical Oncology ICU cares for a complex and dynamic patient population. This includes patients with complex oncological disorders which require surgical intervention including complex abdominal procedure including hepatectomy, and whipple procedures, complex otolaryngology- head and neck surgery flaps, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), complex gynecological procedures, septic shock, diabetic crisis, substance abuse withdrawal management, high risk obstetrical disorders such as accrete management, massive transfusion management, interventional radiology for congenital cardiology, and acute and chronic kidney failure requiring continuous rental replacement therapy (CRRT). The unit offers a variety of advanced monitoring techniques and innovative interventions that allow for the best possible outcome for the patients. Patient care is driven by a multifaceted approach geared towards the highest quality of individualized care.

Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of cumulative ICU experience with 1 year of that experience within the last 12 months
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR certification
- Active American Heart Association ACLS certification
- The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the care of surgical and/or oncology patients
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree
- Recent experience in an academic medical center
License/Certification
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
