Tax Manager - Privately Held Businesses (Remote/Hybrid - Must Reside in Listed Locations)

Compensation: $125,000 - $160,000 base salary, depending on experience

A well-established advisory firm is seeking a Tax Manager to lead client engagements for privately held businesses across a variety of industries. This role is ideal for a seasoned tax professional with deep technical knowledge in corporate and partnership taxation, who thrives in a leadership position and values client relationships, mentorship, and strategic advisory work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the full lifecycle of tax compliance and planning for privately held businesses, including corporations, S-corps, and partnerships
  • Conduct technical research, calculate the tax impact of complex transactions, and advise clients accordingly
  • Oversee tax return review and coordinate workflow for team members across multiple engagements
  • Guide clients through tax credit opportunities and evolving tax incentives relevant to their business structure
  • Lead billing and WIP tracking processes, managing budgets and partner expectations
  • Ensure exceptional client service by managing deadlines, expectations, and communication
  • Build lasting relationships with business owners and executive stakeholders, becoming a trusted advisor
  • Lead and coach teams of staff, seniors, and fellow managers, promoting knowledge sharing and ongoing development
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure high-quality deliverables and forward-thinking tax strategy execution
  • Foster a culture of inclusivity, professional growth, and continuous improvement within the team


  • Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (required)
  • CPA required
  • 5+ years of progressive public accounting experience, with strong knowledge of corporate and partnership tax issues
  • Familiarity with consulting and compliance for privately held entities (partnerships, S-corps, corporations, individuals)
  • Practical understanding of tax credits, incentives, and investor reporting requirements
  • Experience conducting technical tax research and advising on complex tax scenarios
  • Excellent leadership, time management, and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage both internal teams and client expectations effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe)
  • Experience using CCH Axcess is strongly preferred
  • High level of initiative, accountability, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment
