The primary role of the Project Engineer position is overseeing, managing, and executing engineering projects from concept through completion involved with working on the design, planning, and implementation of chemical manufacturing systems, processes, and equipment. The Project Engineer ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. The role provides sound engineering support for maintenance, facilities and production teams.

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Lead renovation / improvement assigned projects which could include cost analysis, planning, implementation, supervision of outside contractors and provide effective communication to all affected parties on about project timelines and status.
  • Oversees and provides direction for third party contractors to complete onsite work safely and correctly.
  • Coordinate with internal personal or vendors to ensure required calibration activities are completed as scheduled.
  • Support CAPEX purchasing, third-party specification creation, sourcing/reviewing proposals, installation, and commissioning including supporting IQ/PQ/OQ quality systems
  • Oversees installation, modifications, commissioning, procedures, and inspection of processes adhering to engineering principles and safety regulations.
  • Supports developing internal processes, SOPs, work instruction, and training while implementing productivity improvements.
  • Perform necessary troubleshooting and repairs (may require hands-on work) to maintain upkeep and operation of process equipment or other key facilities systems within both Chaska and Brooklyn Park facilities as required.
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance collaborating with cross-functional groups to meet operational goals, support initiatives and inspire continuous improvements.
  • Provides reliability engineering support for maintenance and reliability efforts assuring healthy asset life.
  • Assist in creating list of spare parts inventory for equipment and systems.
  • Assists in installation and retrofit of facilities equipment, in accordance with all applicable building codes.
  • Understand industry safety codes and regulations as defined by OSHA, EPA, FDA, MNPCA, and other regulatory agencies and apply knowledge to continually improving facility's needs.
  • Performs Engineering tasks and projects assigned which may include, but are not limited to safety system checks, building condition reports, inspections related to safety, development of MOC documents, investigation reports and root cause analysis.
  • Assist in development and update of engineering drawings, specifications, O&M manuals, and other project deliverables.
  • Maintain excellent interpersonal working relationships among all staff.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned by Engineering Management.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 2+ years of relevant work experience or Associates Degree in technical discipline with 5+ years relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Proficiency in Engineering Design software (ACAD, SolidWorks)
  • Hands-on mechanical skills and related troubleshooting acumen
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, and schematics
  • Effective interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task effectively
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years in Project/Construction Management, preferred accredited certification
  • 2+ years experience in a regulated (i.e., EPA, FDA,) environment
  • Working knowledge of process validation techniques: statistical process control (SPC), change control in QMS, design organizational approval preferred
  • Working knowledge of lean thinking, six sigma or other continuous improvement methodology preferred
  • Allen Bradley PLC and/or building automation skills or willingness to learn


Additional Requirements:
  • Position is full-time, onsite in Chaska, MN.
  • Annual salary range: $85,000 - $95,000 (commensurate with experience and qualifications).

Worker may be exposed to elevated room temperatures for prolonged periods of time. Work Environment includes: exposure to or working in or around equipment and machinery including computers, pumps, piping, valves, steam systems, hot rooms, flow meters, tanks, shear mixers, filters, process controls, forklifts and material handling equipment. Employees will be expected to work around, with, and adjacent to potentially dangerous equipment, chemicals, and processes. Workers would be expected to wear appropriate safety gear and follow safety procedures for each situation as required or desired. Job requirements will occasional dictate working over six feet above the floor or ground, or inside of confined spaces.
