POSITION SUMMARY: In addition to providing medical services to assigned patients, the Lead Medical Provider will provide overall supervision to the other medical providers, nursing and clinical programs onsite. Supervise and/or perform services such as prenatal care, office gynecology, and Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program activities. This position has potential for Graduate Medical Education (GME) faculty appointment if filled by a physician.

- Provide direct medical services to program patients.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining professional relationship with ancillary medical, laboratory and pharmaceutical services within the community.
- Evaluate patients with complex problems and refer to appropriate physicians/specialists if problem cannot be treated in-house.
- Maintains the standards of patient care and implements the policies and procedures of the Medical Department.
- Responsible for communicating problems identified involving personnel, medical staff, patients, families and the general public to the Clinic Manager or appropriate staff.
- Administrative duties such as assist with approving paid time off for direct reports and teams at designated site(s), be involved in recruiting efforts as appropriate, perform annual performance reviews of Medical providers at designated site(s) as assigned.
- Collaboration with Nursing Director to ensure nursing performance and services meets Agency standards and patient care needs.
- Perform or coordinate peer review for other medical providers as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Medical Director.
Experience and Skills
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required for an employee to successfully perform their
duties.
- Maintain required California licensure as Physician, Women's Health Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife; Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology or Family Medicine with high-risk OB qualification preferred. Out-of-state license is accepted, but must be able to obtain California license within one year.
- Maintain current DEA registration.
- Responsible for obtaining necessary continuing medical education credits; a significant portion of which should be specifically relevant to Indian Health issues.
- Two (2) years clinical experience in direct delivery of obstetrical care.
- Has demonstrated the ability to work with diverse populations (experience working with Native Americans is highly desirable)
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Leadership skills in supervising, coaching, counseling and managing performance of support staff.
- Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling high stress situations.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills with acute attention to detail to write and review various reports;
- Reliable Transportation and ability to adhere to regular attendance.
