The Warranty Manager, NSS Vessels is responsible for managing all post-delivery issues on Seaspan manufactured vessels built under the National Shipbuilding Strategy ("NSS"). They will act as the primary contact for warranty related matters for customer representatives, vessel crew, VSY functional and PMO teams, and sub-contractors. This position will coordinate the work of a team of subcontractors, engineers, trade workers, and will be customer-facing with a range of Canadian Coast Guard, Department of National Defence and Royal Canadian Navy personnel.
This position will be based primarily in Vancouver, BC where VSY-built vessels are delivered to the client. As the vessels will be operating on both Canadian coasts, the Warranty Manager, NSS Vessels may be required to travel on a regular basis. However, ability for temporary re-location (expected to be 4-8 months) to Halifax, Nova Scotia will be seen as a benefit.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement.

The estimated salary for this position is $112,700 - $135,200. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company's sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

Please note:
- The Warranty Manager, NSS Vessels may be required to travel to both East and West Coasts of Canada with limited notice.
- May be required to work onboard vessels at sea to adjudicate customer claims as needed. This may include access to machinery spaces, areas at height and confined spaces.

What you'll do
- Acts as Seaspan's point-of-contact for all customer warranty claims including:
- Evaluating validity and severity of issues.
- Responding within contractually required time frames.
- Ensuring the proper capture of the warranty issues for historical reference
- Act as Project Manager for the planning, monitoring and execution of all warranty related items.
- Updates vessel warranty plans and procedures to ensure contract coverage and protection is provided.
- Manages (through VSY functional departments) the initial proposal to remediate claims, as well as acting as VSY lead for the subsequent investigations and formal response to the client.
- Coordinates across all VSY departments as required to address and close-out warranty claims and ensuring warranty related contractual obligations are met for NSS programs including: PMO, Engineering, Legal, Contracts, Sub-Contracts, Supply Chain, Production, Finance
- Drives suppliers and sub-contractors to investigate and resolve claims as efficiently as possible under tight deadlines.
- Ensures appropriate closure of warranty issues pending resolution - including customer signoff and acceptance.
- Manages performance against contractual commitments and for reconciliation of all matters relating to the warranty fund.
- Play a leading role in assessment of new technology projects tailored for warranty and in-service support activities.
- Meets tight schedule deadlines within budget.
What you'll bring
- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Business or Marine related programs (or equivalent experience).
- 5 or more years of experience in a large-scale construction projects.
- Sound understanding of the operation of all ship systems.
- Experience in product post-delivery or warranty environment is desirable.
- Experience in a customer facing role, responsible for resolving technical and commercial matters.
- Experience delivering results through management of suppliers and subcontractors.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and ability to drive results from informal teams.
- Ship-specific knowledge of OOSV and JSS is desirable.
- Management Professional (PMP) or similar project management certification is desirable.
- Security clearance: Reliability Status and Controlled Goods Approval required, or ability to quickly attain.
- Strong customer service orientation with the demonstrated ability to understand and translate customer needs into feasible work plans.
- Capable of managing complex relationships including conflict resolution and communicating cross-functionally between many stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of safe working practices in a production or marine environment.
- Exemplary business acumen and ethics.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of commercial awareness, and the ability to balance technical, commercial and contractual requirements.
- High levels of initiative and the ability to work with and coordinate the activities of people.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
- Excellent knowledge of the English language, verbal and written.
- Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
