This vacancy is located in the Total Quality Management Departmentof Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA (East Feliciana Parish). ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services.

The position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agencywide permanent status employees); by Detail to Special Duty; or as a part-time WAE. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.

Salary is negotiable based on experience. Please list all work experience and describe your duties as you will not be qualified on job titles alone.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:

Four years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A bachelor's degree in nursing plus three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A master's degree in nursing or public health plus three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR

A doctorate in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

Serves as the "house manager" of a facility by coordinating and supervising the facility and all nursing activities during evening, night, weekend, or holiday shifts.
Assists with determining suitable organizational structure and staffing requirements for the facility during an assigned shift and reassigns employees when necessary.
Develops and interprets to other professional and nonprofessional staff area operation policies, procedures, and standards of care in accordance with overall hospital and accreditation committee policies.
Serves on various committees such as, Nursing Policy and Procedure Committee, patient safety, quality assurance, and utilization review.
Provides administrative and technical support to nurse supervisors and resolves patients' and physicians' complaints.
Creates, updates, and provides shift reports to supervisors.
Initiates or responds to various codes; supervises staff to assure that proper procedure is followed.
When necessary acts as liaison with families, other facilities, law enforcement agencies concerning patients' admission, discharge, transfer, etc.
Establishes and maintains a communication system with other departments and outside agencies for use as a resource for patient care needs.
