Children's Wisconsin is seeking an experienced nurse executive to serve as the Vice President, Patient Care Services & Associate Chief Nursing Officer. The leader in this role will be accountable for the overall quality of patient care and the effective operations of Patient Care Services and related support areas which include Patient Care Units- acute and critical care, select Service Lines, Respiratory Care Services, Transport, Emergency Services, Mission Control, the Staffing Operations Center, and areas of clerical or business support. The individual in this role will partner with the Chief Nursing Officer and lead Nursing for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

Minimum Requirements Include:
  • Master's degree in nursing or related field.
  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Nurse Executive Board Certification or Nurse Executive Advanced Board Certification. FACHE may be considered in lieu of certification.
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in patient care administrative positions.
  • Requires an extremely high level of analytical ability to develop plans and creative problem-solving solutions, as well as participate significantly in the development of the entire organization's short- and long-range goals and objectives.
  • Requires advanced interpersonal skills necessary to interact in extremely delicate, sensitive and/or complex situations, plus a high degree of judgment, initiative, tact, and persuasiveness to effectively carry out the responsibilities of the position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current leadership, management, and quality improvement concepts to attain a thorough understanding of hospital, patient needs and goals, and assume overall responsibility for the large, diverse nursing division.
  • Requires knowledge of current theoretical approaches to the delivery of patient care and advanced leadership, management and quality improvement concepts. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Participates as a full member of the hospital administrative team; supports all strategic and long-range planning activities of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Represents Patient Care Services and Service Lines in organizational planning.
  • Provides administrative leadership to assigned departments; ensures directors are well informed concerning hospital and system plans; works with directors to establish goals, objectives and plans to support the strategic plan of the organization.
  • Collaborates with key resources in utilizing information systems to establish data for use in real time data driven decision making, outcomes reporting, and quality improvement.
  • Collaborates with key physicians, executives, and strategic planning and management to establish and implement clinical enterprise strategic plans for Service Line and Patient Care Services growth. Assures alignment with community need.
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships with physicians, departments, and employees to improve coordination of services provided and improve patient experience and provider and employee engagement. Ensures visibility with employees through rounding, chat sessions, etc.
  • Develops and maintains a variety of external contacts with educational institutions, community, and professional organizations to understand market changing activities within areas of direct oversight.
  • Collaborates and partners with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to develop and maintain record and reporting systems for staff, including the patient acuity and assignment system and staffing systems, and to assure programs are in place to recruit and retain quality Patient Care Services staff and leaders with the right mix of staff to meet patient needs.
