We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Director, Medical Communications to support our Medical Affairs team. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in medical communications, oncology, and cell therapy. This person will be a member of the Medical Affairs leadership team and will be responsible for the overall global plan for Medical Communications and Medical Information. This position will also support publication planning and strategy.

Location: Fully Remote

What You'll Do:

As the Scientific Communication leader, you will be responsible for developing a strategic medical communication plan and its execution. This includes:

  • Developing scientific and clinical slide decks, tools, training materials, and resources in support of field medical activities and plan for the presence and coverage of key oncology congresses globally. He/she will be responsible for developing a plan to support guidelines, compendia, and clinical pathways.


  • The incumbent will also lead the development of the Medical Information plan and its execution. This includes setting up and managing a Call Center with oversight for training and quality assurance and creating Medical Information response letters and FAQs to be prepared for responding to unsolicited medical inquiries. He/she will also be responsible to collect, analyze, and generate reports and insights and will assist with the execution of medical affairs activities at scientific congresses.


  • Serve as an integral member of the Medical Affairs leadership team, contributing to the strategic planning, decision-making, and overall direction of the Medical Affairs department


  • Develop and execute the vision and expectations for the Medical Communications function across pipeline, including slide decks, advisory board plan and execution (global and regional), call center implementation, and medical information materials, etc.


  • Develop and execute on NCCN guidelines and all appropriate compendia


  • Support Global Publication strategy, planning, and team meetings


  • Manage and train cell center staff and vendors


  • Develop standard response letters and response to frequently asked questions


  • Understand the regulatory environment related to medical information and medical communication, including those related to unsolicited requests for off-label information and ensure dissemination of medical information meets regulatory guidelines


  • Collaborate proactively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, including Clinical Development, Project Leadership, Corporate Communications, Public Relations, Market Access, and Marketing to ensure alignment and integration of scientific communication efforts


  • Champion the importance of high-quality scientific communications within the organization, positioning the company as a thought leader in oncology and cell therapy


  • Align development and implementation of communication plans to effectively convey complex scientific information to diverse audiences, including healthcare professionals, patients, and payers


  • Review and ensure that all processes and communications are compliant with industry standards, regulatory guidelines, and company policies


  • Work closely with the team responsible for development and submission of scientific manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations for peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences


Secondary Functions:

  • Foster strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including Key Opinion Leaders, academic institutions, and industry partners


  • Represent the company at scientific meetings, conferences, and advisory boards


  • Provide scientific expertise and support to cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment of communication strategies with broader business objectives


Required Experience and Education:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, APN, or equivalent) in a relevant scientific discipline


  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in medical communications, publications, or related fields within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry


  • Experience in oncology required


  • Proven track record of leading and managing high-performing teams


  • Extensive experience in medical communications and medical information.


  • Strong knowledge of regulatory guidelines and industry standards (e.g., ICMJE, GPP 2022)


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information in a clear and concise manner


  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, vendors, and deadlines simultaneously


  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment


Preferred Experience and Education:

  • Cell therapy experience preferred.


  • Experience with advertising and media campaigns in support of clinical trials preferred


  • Prior launch experience preferred

Work Environment:

This position is remote and should be performed in an office setting that simulates the work office environment. This office must be set up in a way that allows for privacy and quiet during work hours, as well as a comfortable chair and desk. This position uses phone, computer, office equipment and supplies on a regular basis. Noise levels should be at a level which would allow for proper communication with other members virtually.

Travel required:

Up to 25% travel maybe required, domestically and internationally.

Physical demands:

  • Communicating Verbally - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to others to convey detailed spoken instructions or other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.


  • Hearing - the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds one-on-one, group or conference, telephone, and other sounds.


  • Keyboarding - entering data or text into a computer or other machine by means of a keyboard. Devices include a traditional keyboard, 10 key-pad, touch screens and others.


  • Lifting - raising or lowering an object (up to 25 lbs) from one level to another (includes upward pulling). Carrying is to transport an object - usually by holding it in the hands or arms but may occur on the shoulder.


  • Near Visual Acuity - clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (working with small objects, reading small print, including the use of computers).


  • Pushing - Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the object.


  • Pulling - Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the force.


  • Sitting - remaining in a sitting position for at least 50% of the time.


  • Standing/Walking - remain on one's feet in an upright position at a workstation.


  • Stooping - occasional bending the body downward and forward by bending the spine at the waist - requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
