Summary
is recruiting for an Educator Consultant I to join the Family Ways team. Family Ways supports pregnant persons, parenting families and children up to age five. Services are provided to 3 specific focus communities: U.S. born Black/African American, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and the Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities. All services are culturally relevant, participant-centered, and strengths-based. The Educator Consultant will work in a team environment and practice care coordinated with other disciplines. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing education and behavior-change programs to partner with the Family Ways Peer Community Specialists. In this role you will work with the team to assess program needs, monitor quality assurance, and develop and promote culturally appropriate educational materials and information. The focus will be on developing trainings and materials to support the Peer Community Specialists as they partner with clients and families in creating care plans as well as provide direct service to a small caseload of families.

Team members will be upheld to Family Ways Guiding Principles: leading with racial equity, respect, participant-centered services with strength-based practice, collaborative decision making, accountability, and continuous improvement in their services and programming. Competitive candidates should have experience in working closely and collaboratively with individuals and families that are members of one or more of the 3 focus communities, have experience with client interaction in a variety of settings (including home/field visits), and be comfortable accompanying participants and families to appointments. The Educator Consultant will report to and collaborate with the Family Ways Co-Leads.

Applicants should demonstrate experience in teaching and coaching, collaboration with others, and strong communication skills that are inclusive and inviting, especially in difficult situations. Competitive candidates will need to have experience in and the ability to participate in and assist with continuous improvement efforts. This position is situated in the Community Health Services Division in the Parent Child Health Program. Staff will report to work at county public health clinics as their work locations. It is preferred that candidates have direct knowledge and/or lived experience working in at least one of these communities: U.S born Black/African American, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities. Work Schedule

The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This position is FLSA non-exempt and is overtime eligible.

With travel to various public health clinics throughout King County.

Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

Some of the work associated with this position will be performed through teleworking and will report to office location and to meetings as needed. Travel to other work locations may be necessary. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. Job Duties

  • Assess program needs in partnership with the Family Ways team and develop, implement, and evaluate broad-based solutions/programs.
  • Design and conduct educational programs and training for Family Ways staff, participants, community groups and other professionals.
  • Develop and promote culturally appropriate educational materials and information.
  • Lead continuous quality improvement activities in alignment with program goals/objectives.
  • Partner with program participants and families to develop care plans that may include: Identifying social and health systems resources and identifying and connecting participants to community resources.
  • Collaborate with program participants, families, communities, and King County programs to support access to services and referrals.
  • Be comfortable discussing difficult topics and learning and presenting new materials to program participants such as information fact sheets on common health concerns, developmental milestones, pregnancy and postpartum care, etc.
  • Foster and coordinate community and agency partnerships. Attend community events.
  • Arrange for culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate presentations for specific audiences.
  • Maintain and update a library of training and reference materials.
  • Respond to calls, emails, or requests in a timely manner.
  • Support community engagement activities, expanding partnerships and program participation.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other King County programs and community-based organizations to advance racial equity and social justice. This may include active participation in development of racial equity/anti-racism trainings or curriculum.
  • Be an active partner in participant-centered, strengths-based practices.
  • Collaborate and share decision making with team members, fostering and creating space for authentic and respectful dialogue.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Experience developing educational materials and trainings in response to program needs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of education and behavior-change programs, training and assessment methods.
  • Familiarity with parenting, child development, pregnancy, and post-partum educational materials.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and promoting culturally relevant educational materials and information.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods and presentation techniques.
  • Skills in effectively communicating information to a wide variety of audiences, making individual or group presentations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills and experience using computer, Microsoft programs (Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.), electronic health records or data collection systems, video meeting platforms and a wide range of audio-visual equipment and programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress.
  • Customer service, health care, or education skills or experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
