Role

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives Division, The Deputy Chief, Provincial Firearms Officer / Executive Director, Alberta Chief Firearms Office (ACFO) position provides leadership and strategic oversight of firearms related matters in Alberta, ensuring a balance between public safety and the rights of law abiding firearms owners. The Deputy Chief/ACFO is responsible for administering the Alberta Firearms Act, and the Federal Firearms Act [Canada], and Part III of the Criminal Code, while shaping policies that reflect Alberta's priorities. This role oversees licensing compliance and safety programs for 360,000 firearms license holders, approximately 660 firearms businesses in Alberta and approximately 300 shooting ranges, ensuring efficiency and responsiveness within Canada's and Alberta's firearms regulatory frameworks. The Deputy Chief leads engagement with stakeholders, including firearm owner's businesses, law enforcement, and advocacy groups, while advocating for Alberta's autonomy in federal provincial firearms policy discussions. Through strategic leadership the Deputy Chief enhances firearm safety education, strengthens public safety initiatives, and ensures Alberta's firearms administration aligns with the province's values and interests. These strategies are inclusive of focus on rights for Albertans respecting and advocating for the values of law-abiding firearms owners in the province and promoting firearms safety with law enforcement agencies to keep Albertans safe while administering the Canadian Firearms Program in Alberta.

Qualifications
As an influential and highly credible leader you will build networks, lead, and coach and mentor your team to support their capacity development and you will establish a positive work environment that supports effective team collaboration. Your strong communication skills and political acumen will enable you to lead projects cross-ministry as you develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Your professional credibility, knowledge of the firearms industry and developed partnerships within the Ministry, local communities, and government are critical to your success. Your strategic leadership, combined with your analytical approach, agility, creative problem solving, and policy development experience will be essential in this role. A bachelor's degree combined with related experience in the government sector is preferred.

Salary
$5,234.94 - $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 annually)
