Primary Purpose:
Ensures that electrical protection systems are in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations (e.g., North American Electric Reliability Corporation [NERC]). Coordinates relay settings and ensures that system maintenance and construction projects are prioritized, completed and documented on schedule and in accordance with required procedures. Prepares audit and certification documentation to support audits and certifications from regulatory authorities. Reviews and updates relay test manual to ensure all relay testing methods are current and accurate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Investigates malfunctions or mis-operations of relays, determining whether hardware failure, incorrect settings, or external factors are responsible.
- Modifies calculators and settings procedures based on feedback from field tests to improve accuracy and reliability.
- Utilizes advanced software to perform setting coordination, analyze data, and improve the accuracy and efficiency of processes.
- Performs simulation testing of power systems under fault conditions to validate relay response and system protection schemes.
- Simulates various fault scenarios to verify the relay system's response and accuracy in detecting and isolating faults.
- Collaborates with operations and maintenance teams to develop emergency response plans in case of relay or system failure.
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance relay settings practices, tools, and methods.
- Supports developing internal procedures to ensure full compliance with electrical protection standards.
- Monitors ongoing regulatory changes and ensure testing practices and equipment conform to the latest regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Hybrid Schedule:
- Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow the employee to work onsite three days per week and remotely on the remaining workdays.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or Professional Engineer (PE) certification in addition to five (5) years of engineering experience or an Advanced degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- 5 years related engineering experience.
- Relay Testing - Testing the functionality and performance of relays used in electrical systems to ensure they operate correctly in response to faults.
- Inspection & Investigation Management - Planning and organizing inspections, conducting investigations, analyzing findings, and implementing corrective actions to prevent future issues to ensure that engineering projects are conducted to agreed requirements and in compliance with regulations and standards.
- Regulatory Compliance - Ensuring an organization's adherence to laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications relevant to its business processes.
- Testing Strategy - An outline that describes the testing approach of the software development cycle.
- Project/Program Management - The process of leading the work of a team to achieve goals and meet success criteria at a specified time.
- Troubleshooting - A systematic approach to solving a problem.
- Instrumentation & Equipment Calibration - Adjustment and measuring instruments and equipment to ensure accurate and reliable measurements, verifying the accuracy and precision of instruments, adjusting them to meet required standards, and documenting calibration procedures and results.
- Engineering Drawing/Blueprint Interpretation - Engineering drawings are a rich and specific outline that shows all the information and requirements needed to manufacture an item or product.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Management - The systematic approach to maintain health and safety at occupation and protect the environment.
- Maintenance Management - Management of activities such as repair work, servicing, replacing, inspecting and testing.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Certification.
