Job Description

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #1: Supervision of patient care activities: Monitors treatments to ensure efficient and effective delivery of service. Assists in the assignment of patients of individual therapists to ensure effectiveness of patient care. Fosters the development of innovative patient care programs through supervision and being a role model for staff in the implementation of quality patient care programs. Participates in activities (e.g.

Huddles, team conferences), to ensure continuity of patient care.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #2: Orientation and training of staff/Evaluation and Counseling of staff.

Implements established orientation and training programs for staff members on a rotating basis. Actively participates in the evaluation and counseling of all levels of staff, students, and other personnel assigned to the unit. Reviews unit organization, procedures, and protocols to thoroughly acquaint staff with their roles in their unit.

Encourages continued professional growth by providing both verbal and written supervisory support which will enhance staff performance. Maintains an awareness of Medical Center disciplinary procedures for implementation in a timely and appropriate manner.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #3: Implementation and documentation of treatment plan and interventions.

Assists in maintaining all required departmental and unit records. Assists in determining what documentation is required to adequately document P.T. programs and conforms to standards required by the Medical Center and outside regulatory agencies.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #4: Coordinates the recommendation, procurement, and delivery procedures of equipment necessary for patients through the PT service. Works in conjunction with other management to keep abreast of new equipment available and participates in the evaluation of such equipment for patient needs. Assists in the utilization, maintenance, and storage of supplies and equipment of the unit as determined by the unit supervisor.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #5: Participates in in-service programs, conferences, and consultations. Ensures ongoing enhancement of current level of skills and knowledge for self and supervising staff. Designs a personal plan of development in clinical, managerial, and professional areas through higher education, reading professional journals, attending professional seminars, etc. Is a role model for the staff in this area of professionalism.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #6: Promotes effective communication between all staff members and interdepartmental personnel. Maintains confidentiality of all patient, physician, and hospital related information.

Demonstrates well thorough, effective (verbal and written) communications.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #7: Demonstrates good managerial judgment by conducting each aspect of supervision in a fair, firm, consistent, and objective manner. Makes good judgments which are based on gathering and analyzing, factual and objective data is able to interpret policies/procedures in order to make a sound independent decision. Makes decisions in a timely manner and develops an awareness and understanding of the responsibilities of the unit.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #8: Clinical training of fieldwork and non-fieldwork students. Teaches and supervises assigned students in the appropriate techniques, skills and procedures. Demonstrates a genuine interest in assisting students in enhancing their knowledge and skill levels. Encourages positive learning experiences for Career Opportunity Students and other Non-Fieldwork students/participants.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #9: Planning and time utilization. Work is done in an efficient and organized manner which is demonstrated by clear, advanced planning. Demonstrates the ability to multi-task and be flexible to unexpected changes and prioritizes in an appropriate, timely fashion. Coordinates personal work and the work for the staff to achieve efficiency in addition to quality patient care.

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY #10: Evaluates physical therapy needs and implements comprehensive, medically prescribed physical treatment to assigned patients in a supervised program of rehabilitation. Demonstrates a variety of treatment approaches.

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have a valid license and current registration to practice as a Physical Therapist issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) AND one of the following:
1. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited college or university; or
2. One (1) year of professional experience in administering physical therapy.
