THE OPPORTUNITY
Western Forest Products is hiring for a Team Lead, GIS Services to join our team based in Campbell River, BC.
What You'll Do: The Team Lead, GIS Services will lead a team of GIS professionals, manage complex projects, and develop tools to improve business performance while ensuring high standards and efficiency. This position is crucial for coordination with other departments and external clients to develop solutions to issues and oversee the operation, maintenance, and design of all GIS-related systems and databases.

- Salary range of $100,000 - $115,000 based on skill level, qualifications, and experience

Work Environment: This role is to be performed in person at our Campbell River office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage a team of GIS professionals, ensuring that all corporate and operational requests are met on time and to the highest standard;
- Use advanced GIS, data management and programming skills to develop tools and technologies to increase efficiency and improve business performance;
- Foster a positive team atmosphere by supervising, mentoring, recruiting, training and evaluating staff while ensuring that they have the resources necessary to be successful;
- Manage large and complex projects involving multiple stakeholders, delegate tasks and ensure that work is completed to a high standard, on time and on budget;
- Coordinate with other departments and external clients to develop solutions to issues;
- Oversee the operation, maintenance and design of all GIS related systems and databases;
- Perform advanced editing, spatial queries, prepare and implement data quality checks, author and edit map templates and views, analyze and document business processes;
- Develop standards and procedures for handling, updating and analyzing data and ensure these are followed;
- Maintain continued awareness of emerging technologies and recognize and promote technologies that offer significant opportunities;
- Understand corporate financial goals and develop innovative solutions to drive cost efficiencies;
- Coordinate with IT department to troubleshoot systems to ensure availability of applications;
- Prepare and manage budgets and negotiate contracts;
- Manage external requests for data.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in GIS from a recognized and accredited institution is preferred;
- 8+ years of progressive GIS experience with 1+ year of direct supervisory experience.
- 5+ years working in the forest industry;
- Documented training with current ESRI GIS software and programming languages;
- Demonstrated forest management acumen specific to forestry requirements and challenges.
Skills, Knowledge and Required Competencies
- Advanced skills in geomatics including editing, mapping, geo-processing, querying and reporting;
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and motivate staff;
- Demonstrated skills in project management, problem solving and organization;
- Strong expertise using the ESRI software suite of tools including ArcGIS Pro, ArcSDE and ArcGIS;
- Strong expertise in front and back-end of Trimble's Land Resources Manager;
- Advanced skills in database management using Oracle;
- Refined written and oral communication skills;
- Developed understanding of business drivers and performance measures;
- Customer service-oriented disposition.
