Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Our Portland Branch has an excellent opportunity available for a Manager. We are looking for a self-motivated, energetic, team player that can develop continuous improvement through a high level of professional and technical knowledge. The ideal candidate will have approximately 10 years department or industry experience and an analytics background in logistics or transportation industry. Purpose: Maintains all aspects of daily Ocean Export operations - lead and train export staff to meet customer satisfaction, operation and compliance KPI's, expand business revenue and profits.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • 30% Direct all Export operations and lead/supervise Export staff
  • 20% Planning- Research and report on all relevant Export laws, practices and incorporate into department strategy, resources and procedures
  • 20% Communicate with customers, vendors, Export related authorities and agencies and internally within NEU
  • 20% Sales call on existing/new customers to increase revenue/profit
  • 5% Manage/coordinate with other NEU internal functions - warehouse, sales, etc.
  • 5% Reporting and analysis for management
  • Anticipate, research and report on future changes in Export laws and in relevant practices, and insure such knowledge is factored into the planning of the departments' strategy, resources and procedures.
  • Prepare quotations for key customers or give approval to ones prepared by Sales and other Export staff
  • Communicate with overseas branches regarding special, new, or potential traffic/customers. Also, provide window of communication to overseas branches.
  • Communication with other departments in order to establish and maintain effective and relevant Export activities and support in relation to NEU's sales, purchasing and operating functions.
  • Communicate with outside Export related authorities and agencies as needed.
  • Communicate with customers regarding issues, new service, etc. Visit customers in order to develop good relationships and to acquire important information that may affect future business. Prepare customer quotations or give approval to ones prepared by sales staff.
  • Generate reports and analyze various types of data such as revenue, costs, volume, trends, etc. Reports should be useful to upper management as well as understanding the status of the department.
  • Research, plan and implement transportation methods. May also coordinate with Traffic department in larger branches
  • Sales calls on existing and new sales prospects to expand business
  • Responsible for Account Receivables (All accounts) to make sure unpaid invoices will be paid with payment terms
  • Supervise personnel/business activities and staff within the department, and provide goals, guidance, resources, training and other support to allow the staff to perform at a high level, includes performance management.
  • Plan/organize the department, and achieve Department Revenue/Profit goals, cost saving goals.


Salary Pay Range

$78,000-$84,000/annually

This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary range for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs and other considerations permitted by law. At NEU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements, Education, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate or significant or relevant or appropriate working experience.
  • Approximately 5 years department or industry experience

Skills & Abilities:
  • Analytical skill (Familiar with logistics concept and planning concept)
  • Knowledge of international commerce (sales and payment term, method, customs regulations etc.)
  • Knowledge of Consolidator system
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), State, Federal and Interstate Commerce commission (ICC) regulation
  • Communication skill

  • Management

Supervises:
  • Supervise personnel/business activities and staff within the department, and provide goals, guidance, resources, training and other support to allow the staff perform at a high level. This includes performance management.
  • Plan/organize the department, and achieve a goal include increasing Revenue, cost saving (analysis of cost and negotiate with subcontractors.)
