The role
The Manager, Operations (Facilities and Emergency Response) is part of the leadership team that delivers safe, reliable, efficient, and effective services and facilities at the Kamloops Airport. Reporting to the Managing Director, this role develops and delivers the airport's capital program, including restoration and infrastructure maintenance. Responsibilities of this role also include the management and leadership of the airport's Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) staff and program.
This role is based in Kamloops, BC; some domestic and international travel may be required.

The role
The Manager, Operations (Facilities and Emergency Response) is part of the leadership team that delivers safe, reliable, efficient, and effective services and facilities at the Kamloops Airport. Reporting to the Managing Director, this role develops and delivers the airport's capital program, including restoration and infrastructure maintenance. Responsibilities of this role also include the management and leadership of the airport's Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) staff and program.
This role is based in Kamloops, BC; some domestic and international travel may be required.
Key responsibilities
- Develop effective preventive maintenance and replacement programs for all buildings, fleet, airfield infrastructure, and on-airport civil works.
- Lead the airports' capital program by developing and administering the capital asset management plan and ensuring asset inventory and condition are accurate.
- In conjunction with the Managing Director, manage the Request for Proposal (RFP) process for capital projects, including selection and oversight of resulting projects.
- Lead the airport's ARFF program to meet regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for recruitment, training and development, disciplinary procedures, and the overall performance for the airport technical team in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
- Work with the Managing Director to contribute to the Airport's long-term strategic plans, as well as annual business plans and budgets.
- Play a key role in driving the company's ESG initiatives forward, ensuring alignment with sustainability and corporate responsibility goals.
- Has role-specific interaction with the Airport Society, Transport Canada, airport business partners and other stakeholders, most often on an ad hoc or project basis.
- In compliance with the designation of authority, makes decisions and implements those actions to ensure the airport is operating in a safe and efficient manner.
- Coordinate closely with the Manager, Airport Operational Compliance.
- Handles confidential information, including employee details, appropriately.
- When designated, authorized to act as the Managing Director in their absence.
- Keep the Managing Director fully informed on important and relevant issues in a timely manner.
- Prepare and present reports on a wide range of matters as requested by the Managing Director.
- Consult and collaborate with Vantage network colleagues to optimize the delivery of facilities and services at the airport.
- Model and promote honest and ethical conduct within the airport team; keeps confidentiality; appropriately handles actual or apparent conflicts of interest, meeting standards of full disclosure, and consistently acting in the organization's long-term interest, to preserve and enhance Kamloops Airport's reputation.
- Other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the position may be assigned.
About you:
- Minimum 5 years' experience working in an aviation/airport operating, facilities maintenance or industrial environment, including experience with facilities and equipment preventative maintenance practices and procedures.
- Experience in managing capital projects, including managing from RFP process through to completion.
- Strong personal and professional commitment to safety, including experience creating safe environments.
- Natural team leader, with a track record of consulting and empowering direct reports.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare and monitor a departmental budget.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with developing emergency response procedures.
- Position-relevant post-secondary education degree or diploma preferred.
