The Ministry of Justice works to ensure a fair and accessible justice system for all Albertans. It also provides a broad range of justice services and covers legal aid, grants and specialized court and restorative justice to improve access to justice by sharing information to help those in need. It is also responsible for providing legal and strategic services to government by representing ministries in matters before the courts and tribunals as well as drafting public government bills, regulations, and Orders in Council.

Role

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategy, Support and Integrated Initiatives Division, The Executive Director, Justice Supports, provide strategic leadership and oversight to senior management team of five directors. This role ensures the branch's operations and services align with the ministry's business and strategic objectives. The Executive Director is responsible for shaping program policy and legislative development to support the effective delivery of branch programs, policies, and services. Advice will be provided to the ministry executives and elected officials while proactively monitoring community safety and access to justice issues. This ensures that programs and services remain responsive to evolving stakeholder needs and external pressures and government priorities. A key responsibility of this role is overseeing the administration of Alberta's legal aid plan, serving as the Ministers representative to the governance agreement, and managing the ministries financial commitments, including the annual grant to legal aid. The Executive Director ensures that all branch initiatives are integrated, coordinated, and compliant with relevant legislation and policies. Success in this role requires strong relationships with senior representatives from governance government ministries, law enforcement agencies, Indigenous leaders and groups, and community stakeholders. The Executive Director collaborates with senior justice officials to develop, coordinate, and implement new legislative and operational policy initiatives that enhance justice system effectiveness and accessibility. Key areas of responsibility for the role include: Community Safety Initiatives (including: Specialised Courts, Restorative Justice, Youth Justice Committees, other access to justice initiatives, etc.); Indigenous Policy and Services (Indigenous Court Work Program, Gladue Report Program, etc.); Legal Aid and Grants; Official Documents and Appointments (Notary Public and Commissioner of Oaths, etc.); the Alberta Law Libraries; and general support of other ministry of Justice programs and services.

Qualifications
You are a highly skilled communicator and your background includes related senior leadership experience with strengths in project management and a proven ability to direct programs in a complex multi-stakeholder environment. You are a recognized leader who is agile, politically astute and service oriented, with exceptional financial acumen, interpersonal, and analytical skills. You have experience working with the court systems and you have well established policy experience. With your consultative approach you have developed trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders. Experience working in government would be an asset. A bachelor's degree combined with related experience in the government sector is preferred; a master's degree would be an asset.

Salary

$5,234.94- $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 yearly)
