The VP SBA Business Development Officer reports directly to the SBA Program Manager in coordination with the Corporate Credit division; works with Business Bankers, Commercial Bankers and Commercial Credit to maintain high quality new credit originations for the bank. The SBA BDO will assist a Business Banker or Commercial Banker on the review, structure and presentation of new SBA credit opportunities. The SBA BDO will also work with the local CDCs in the market to generate referral opportunities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION MAKING:
Sound decisions related to structure of loan transactions to ensure they meet the SBA SOP requirements as well as the credit policies of Eastern Bank. The incumbent interacts with several departments of the Bank, including Business Banking, Retail Banking, Commercial Banking and Commercial Credit, Default Management and Managed Assets. The impact relative to these decisions made within this authority have a direct relationship to the institution's overall credit decision process, quality, and profitability. This position requires high quality operational support within a commercial lending group.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The employee frequently is required to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer. The employee is occasionally required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. They also frequently operate motor vehicles and travel to locations outside of the facility, to attend meetings, trainings, events, and other client business activities. The employee occasionally positions self to maintain or access files in file cabinets. The employee must have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The must have near visual acuity for working on a computer, far visual acuity, and peripheral vision necessary for driving a motor vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move boxes or equipment up to 20 pounds across office or while traveling to clients for various needs.

Persons holding this position are generally subject to inside environmental conditions having the lighting, temperature, and noise level of an open floor-plan office environment (moderate, but occasionally loud at times). The employees in this role frequently will be required to travel to other locations, e.g., client or prospect locations. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with Relationship Managers on the structuring of SBA Loan Transactions to ensure they comply with the SBA SOP and are within the credit appetite & policy of Eastern Bank
- Train nor Rain and educate Relationship Managers on SBA products and policies to ensure they are knowledgeable of their use on loan transactions
- Work with the local CDCs in the New England market to generate referral activity between Eastern Bank and their organizations
- Review and recommend improvements to the overall SBA Process in the front end of the credit shop to improve efficiency, reduce risk and improve customer experience.
- Attend internal and external networking and business development events

REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or equivalent combination of training and experience with related credit skills, preferred
- 3 - 5 years of Portfolio Management experience
- Significant training and experience with SBA loans, both 7a and 504 loans, of all sizes
Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated experience, knowledge and judgment with structure, credit decisions and analysis
- Ability to train and lead lenders and community members on SBA and Eastern Bank
- Able to grasp and understand C&I and CRE concepts and structures
- Able to coach and mentor SBA loan processors and analysts to develop skills
- Work independently with limited supervision
- Able to prepare comprehensive, cohesive, detailed written analysis and narrative
- Proficient in etran data entry
