As the responsible stewards of public funds, the Department of Finance partners to ensure value for money in the delivery of programs and services for Yukoners. The Department of Finance serves as the territory's statistical body and develops the territorial budget, corresponding supplementary budgets and Public Accounts for the territory. It is also responsible for negotiating, coordinating and representing Yukon on inter-governmental financial matters with other jurisdictions. In its capacity as a central agency, the department works with all areas of government in the creation of their annual departmental budgets and in processing operational accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.

The Office of the Comptroller provides a central service to the Government of Yukon by maintaining the financial management and reporting framework for departments, government corporations and executive decision makers. The services culminate in the production and delivery of the annual public accounts to the Legislative Assembly, providing transparency and accountability to the public.
The Director, Financial Policy, Quality Assurance, and Education is responsible for leading the analysis, creation and updates of financial legislation, policies and other elements of the Yukon government's financial management framework. This role also provides advisory support to Yukon government departments and public corporations on public sector accounting standards and the financial management framework. The Director will also lead the quality assurance program so as to ensure legislative and policy compliance in financial accounting and reporting.

- Post secondary education in finance, accounting, business administration
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of implementing financial policy and accounting standards
- Possess the Canadian chartered professional accountant designation CPA/CA/CMA/CGA
- Considerable experience managing staff including a demonstrated ability to build capacity and relationships
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the theories, and concepts of financial management, including Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), Generally
- Accepted Auditing Standards, internal control mechanisms, financial systems, and to have the ability to apply this knowledge in a public sector setting
- Extensive exposure to and experience with the analysis of complex financial issues
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
To best support the achievement of key strategic and business objectives, candidates may be assessed on:
- Knowledge of quality assurance, continual process improvement and process re-engineering principles and practices would be considered an asset.
- Sound understanding of project management principles and the skills to work on complex and sensitive projects.
- Considerable leadership, strategic management, judgement and negotiation skills are required to influence others
- Experience in e-learning platforms and tools, designing and delivering training programs
