Purpose Built Schools, in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools (APS), operates three neighborhood schools in South Atlanta: Slater Elementary School (PreK-5), Price Middle School (6-8) and Carver STEAM Academy (9-12). As a network of partner schools, we have the flexibility and autonomy similar to charter schools, but remain true neighborhood schools that serve every student in our attendance zone.

Neighborhood Schools

PBSA schools are neighborhood schools, not charter schools. Every student who lives in our attendance zone can enroll in our pipeline of PreK-12th grade schools

Role & Responsibilities

The High School Science Teacher sits on the Academic Team at Carver STEAM Academy, reporting to the principal. This person will drive student results by:

Curriculum Development and Instruction (50%)
  • Design and implement a challenging, standards-based curriculum.
  • Create high-quality, differentiated lessons and assessments to meet diverse student needs.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to engage students and foster a passion for learning.
  • Analyze data to guide instructional choices and offer targeted support to students requiring extra help.
  • Provide daily feedback on student performance and tailor plans to address individual learning needs.
  • Adapt instruction to ensure all students are making progress.
  • Collaborate with Special Education Teachers to ensure all IEPs and student needs are effectively addressed both inside and outside the classroom.

School and Classroom Culture (30%)
  • Uphold and promote the school's values, policies, and culture, while creating a sense of belonging both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
  • Foster open and ongoing communication with families, regularly updating them on student progress.
  • Participate in school events such as staff meetings, open houses, parent-teacher conferences, and other community activities.
  • Create a classroom atmosphere that supports learning and is tailored to the developmental needs and interests of students.


Growth and Development (20%)
  • Set and strive toward challenging professional goals each year.
  • Engage in giving and receiving both positive and constructive feedback with colleagues.
  • Participate in school-wide and individualized professional development opportunities.
  • Commit to doing whatever is necessary to ensure all students learn and grow.

Qualifications

All PBSA employees must have the belief that all children can learn, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, proficiency in using technology, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Additionally, this person will need the following qualifications to be successful:

Education & Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a related field required.
    • Master's, Specialist, or Doctorate Degree from an accredited institution in a related field preferred.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission for the course(s) taught

Experience & Key Skills
  • Required: 0 years of teaching experience
  • Preferred 5-7 years of teaching experience


Compensation and Benefits

Purpose Built Schools offers comprehensive benefits and a competitive salary that credits an additional step relative to verified years of experience under Atlanta Public Schools policy. You can access the aps pay scale at this link. This job will be paid between $62,580.00 and $127,104.00
