THE ROLE:
The Payroll Accountant reports directly to the Manager of HR Operations and is an active member of the Human Resources team. This position is pivotal in ensuring smooth execution of all international and domestic payroll accounting activities. This role will be the focal for all inbound and outbound invoicing, and act as a resource for the payroll team that ensures payrolls are processed timely, accurately and in compliance with government regulations.

This position is pivotal in ensuring smooth execution of all international and domestic payroll accounting activities. This role will be the focal for all inbound and outbound invoicing, and act as a resource for the payroll team that ensures payrolls are processed timely, accurately and in compliance with government regulations.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:
- Responsible for implementing and managing payroll accounting, tax, and system solutions to support evolving business requirements
- Working with finance, and other PETRONAS entities to design methodologies for extensive cost recovery for manpower costs tied to our joint venture operations and special projects
- Manpower invoicing and reporting, including monthly journal entries and intercompany billings
- Streamlining intercompany billing processes, evaluating procedures to ensure there are no redundancies
- Ensure internal/external audit requirements are being followed as per legislation
- Collaborate with finance to ensure the GL coding is correct and all payroll related reclassifications are timely
- Work closely with the finance teams to provide monthly reports, and ad hoc data to support ongoing accounting needs
- Act as an accounting subject matter expert to other cross-functional departments, ensuring timely resolution of issues and identifying efficiencies within the payroll accounting function
- Provide support and backup coverage to the payroll team for both Canadian and International semi-monthly payrolls for both hourly and salaried employees located in Alberta and BC
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Solid understanding of Canadian Payroll Accounting best practices as set out by GAAP
- Accounting diploma, and knowledge of International Payroll, including inbound and outbound expatriates is considered asset
- Experience with Workday Payroll and SAP an asset
- 10 years of Payroll Accounting experience for both domestic and international payrolls
- Strong attention to detail, a high degree of accuracy, and the ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing
- Proven organizational and time management skills, with a track record of meeting deadlines and managing multiple priorities simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse groups and effectively engage others in support of projects and initiatives
- A proven track record of innovative thinking and demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for improvement
