New Mexico Public Education Department's vision for Education Preparation Programs (EPPs) is grounded in a dedication to support New Mexico approved EPPs to develop new teachers who understand how learners grow and develop, recognizing that patterns of learning and development vary individually within and across the cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional, and physical areas, and designs and implements developmentally appropriate and challenging learning. The state has the responsibility to oversee and set the standards for educator preparation, foster innovation, provide support/training, and hold programs accountable. By improving the depth and quality of preparation for our new teachers, NMPED will improve retention rates for school districts, and improve student outcomes particularly for our most underserved populations. This bureau promotes and supports efforts to recruit and retain teachers in New Mexico. Specifically, the bureau will oversee or support the New Mexico talent initiatives: Grow Your Own Programs and Teacher Residency. These programs support new teachers through mentoring and provide financial support.

The Director of Educator Pathways will lead and manage all Department objectives that are associated with the preparation, recruitment, and retention of individuals to the education profession in New Mexico.
How does it get done?
Strong educator preparation programs that are aligned to PK-12 initiatives are essential to attracting and retaining professional teachers and school leaders who reflect New Mexico's unique educational landscape and who are dedicated to improving outcomes for New Mexico students. This position serves as the liaison between the department, all educator preparation programs, and the Higher Education Department (HED) and be responsible for providing support and accountability to all educator preparation programs in New Mexico.
Rigorous evaluation and monitoring ensures strong educator preparation programs in the state. This position will be responsible for:
Identifying, recruiting, and training teams to complete virtual or in person monitoring visits
Developing, designing, and delivering training materials
Convene the Professional Practices and Standards Commission (PPSC)
Complete all data reporting associated with monitoring and support
Providing technical assistance to educator preparation programs including:
Attending monthly convening of Deans and Directors of preparation programs
Supporting with submission of data for Title II and other required reporting
Reviewing and evaluating documents submitted prior to PPSC presentations
Communicating all updates from the Department to the educator preparation programs
Innovative recruitment and retention strategies are pillars of a strong educator ecosystem. This position will be responsible for:
Working with local and national partners to identify and implement innovative recruitment strategies that lead to an increase in individuals in the education pipeline
Working with local and national partners to identify and implement innovative retention strategies that lead to more educators, especially teachers and school leaders, staying longer in the profession
Working closely with the Indian Education Department (IED) and local partners to support and improve recruitment of Native American teachers and school leaders
Alignment of policies to current education landscape is necessary to ensure the success of the educator ecosystem in New Mexico. This position will be responsible for:
Reviewing current statute and rule related to educator preparation, licensure, professional development, and mentoring
Providing recommended updates to statute and rule to the Policy Division
Working with the Policy Division to engage stakeholders in the rule making process to make updates to current rule
Fiscal responsibility for programs overseen by the bureau is a necessity. This position will be responsible for:
Managing large state appropriations related to educator residency programs and grow your own programs
Overseeing and ensuring compliance of federal grants
Managing a large volume of contracts

Mexico.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal Candidate may have:
5 or more years of experience in a PK-12 setting
Experience working in a college or university setting, working in a college of education is a plus
Educated in adult learning theory
Experience in program evaluation and monitoring
Experience overseeing budgets and contract management
Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance for federal grants
Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a light strategic impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include management, supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
