RESEARCH SCIENTIST
REMOTE WITH IN-PERSON OPTIONS IN CAMBRIDGE, MA, NEW YORK, NY, OR BLOOMINGTON, IN
The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) seeks applicants for skilled programmers and/or researchers to support several research projects in health economics. The studies focus on Alzheimer's disease and dementia in Medicare claims data and are funded by a long-term National Institute on Aging grant.
The position will be supervised by Dr. Kosali Simon (Indiana University and NBER) and Dr. Adam Sacarny (Columbia University and NBER) and will support research that both investigators are leading. Dr. Simon's work focuses on identifying Alzheimer's disease and dementia in Medicare data to support a variety of studies on these conditions. Dr. Sacarny's work will evaluate the impact of changes in nursing home payment on the quality of care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. The investigators' projects are closely linked, and the position will support both.
All applicants should have advanced knowledge of the R programming language and extensive experience working with health care claims data. Knowledge of Unix/Linux systems is also required. Experience with Stata and/or Python is encouraged but not a requirement.
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Economics, Health Services Research, Public Policy, Public Health, or a related quantitative field or should anticipate completing such a degree by spring 2025.

Salary range: $100,000 to $120,000 plus benefits

- Cleaning and processing large datasets, including claims datasets
- Creating and maintaining off-the-shelf datasets for researchers
- Analyzing data using linear regression and other models
- Applying advanced quasi-experimental methods to large-scale datasets
- Presenting findings to the teams led by Drs. Simon and Sacarny
- Collaborate on manuscripts with the teams
