Ovyl is a Nashville-based product development studio that helps companies bring physical products to life-from first sketch to final shipment. We work with startups and established brands to design and engineer consumer electronics, lifestyle products, medical devices, and more.

In this role, you will...

• Drive mechanical designs for a wide range of physical products, from concept to production.
• Develop inventive, practical solutions to complex mechanical and system-level challenges.
• Collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and clients to create elegant, integrated designs.
• Create robust CAD models, engineering drawings, and tolerance analyses using appropriate CAD software.
• Prototype rapidly and iteratively-hands-on with 3D printing, machining, and other shop tools.
• Specify materials and manufacturing processes that align with product goals and constraints.
• Work closely with factories to support DFM, tooling, and production readiness.
• Extra credit for deep experience in plastic part design, DFM, and DFA in consumer product enclosures.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience designing mechanical solutions for hardware products, ideally across multiple industries (e.g. consumer, medical, industrial).
• Strong experience with plastic part design, assemblies, and mechanical integration with PCBAs.
• Deep familiarity with the NPD product development lifecycle, including EVT/DVT/PVT.
• Highly proficient in Onshape or similar CAD software and comfortable producing production-ready drawings and documentation.
• Hands-on prototyping and problem-solving skills-comfortable building, testing, and iterating.
• Experience collaborating with overseas and domestic manufacturers.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills-able to explain your thinking clearly and receive feedback openly.
• BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Must live in the Nashville, TN, area or be willing to relocate. This role is hybrid, and we expect at least three days in the office per week.
• Must be allowed to work in the USA now and in the future. We cannot support visas at this time.

Health Insurance: Ovyl covers 100% of your health insurance premium. You pay the difference for a spouse and/or dependents.

In-office policy: Ovyl believes that the best products are designed in a highly integrated and collaborative office environment, but we also understand the need for flexibility and the option to work from home. We expect you to be in office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and a floating day of your choice.

25 flexible PTO Days and unlimited sick days: At Ovyl, we have a different approach for federal holidays, opting to create a total pool of 25 PTO days. Federal holidays are now "quiet days" where meetings or internal messages are not allowed. You can still take these days off as PTO or save your days for a more extended vacation.

The pay range for this role is:
