Job Description
Purpose:
To serve as an advanced mid-level practitioner focused on the evaluation and treatment of adult patients presenting with medical, surgical and behavioral conditions of an acute nature. Secondary functions will be to support the educational initiatives of the departmental Nurse Educator to support the training of staff nurses in the subject of acute care including procedural skills and critical care knowledge. The Emergency Management Nurse Practitioner will also initiate and support process improvement initiatives, especially those of a collaborative nature with departmental nursing and provider team members to support excellence in Emergency Management and Preparedness.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Evaluate and treat patients presenting to the Department of Emergency Medicine according to the scope of practice and departmental privileges as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. These duties will be supervised under a clinical practice collaborative agreement with the Chairperson of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the New York State Department of Education (NYSED); and
2. Current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the NYSED; and
3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Department Preferences
Completion of an accredited acute care nurse practitioner program
Emergency Management training and leadership experience
Licensed Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

- An annual education differential if you currently possess an appropriate degree in nursing or an allied health field from an accredited college or university, as listed below:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Bachelors in allied health field = $900
- Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Masters in allied health field = $1,200
- Practice or PhD in Nursing (DNP) = $2,500
- An annual certification differential of $1,878 if you currently hold an appropriate certification that is nationally recognized in the field or area of specialization for which you are employed.
- An annual nursing experience differential ranging from $1,097 up to $9,100 for up to 10 years of experience if you have outside nursing experience as a Nurse Practitioner.
- For NP (PC/BH) ONLY: An annual assignment differential ranging from $10,000 up to $25,000 if assigned to a Behavioral Health department AND regularly working evenings/nights
