Position Summary
This is an engineering supervisor position in the North Central Region, Systems Operations Section working under the general supervision of the Systems Operations Section Chief. This maintenance unit is responsible for providing guidance, direction, and oversight of the roadway maintenance activities performed by county crews on the state highway system. This position performs administrative and supervisory functions in the field of engineering and is responsible for the supervision of professional and technical staff that provide support for engineering related functions.
This position's primary role is to achieve program objectives by interpreting and applying policy within its programmatic area and directly supervising a staff of professional engineering and technical positions. This includes coordinating staff and resources to meet program objectives; providing training and developmental opportunities to staff; applying technical expertise in decision-making; developing and implementing policy; performing professional engineering work; applying professional engineering expertise in decision-making; and prioritizing, assigning, and monitoring work to meet project requirements and deadlines. Additionally, this position requires effective communication with internal and external partners, other agencies, consultants, and contractors.
This position requires extensive professional experience in civil engineering, and a comprehensive understanding of technical manuals, specifications, and policies is required. This position reviews, analyzes, and approves engineering reports, documents, and plans. The professional engineering analysis, review, and decisions made by these positions directly relate to the safety and operation of the transportation system, thus has a high level of risk and accountability.

Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range 81-30 with an annual salary of $104,000-$118,456, plus excellent benefits. Plus, an additional $2,080 per year for a Professional Engineer License.
A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This position requires the a bility to travel independently to supervise staff in other regional office, conduct field site visits, and attend training and statewide meetings.
This position may occasionally require work during off-hours, including on the weekend.
WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States. WisDOT is not an E-verify employer.

- A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if the PE registration is from another state.
- Experience in transportation program or project management.
- Experience may include: Oversight of transportation projects or programs in design, construction, and/or maintenance (interpretation of Facilities Development Manual, Highway Maintenance Manual, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, or similar) including delivery of plans, specifications, and estimates (PSE); developing project scope, managing project or program progress tracking/reporting; negotiating and/or administering consultant contracts or similar; developing and tracking project or program budgets, etc.
