The WI Department of Transportation (WisDOT), Division of Transportation System Development (DTSD) is seeking an interested and qualified individual to fill a Rest Area and Weight Facility Engineer (Civil Engineer Transportation Senior or Advanced) position in the Bureau of Highway Maintenance.

Position Summary
This position leads or assists with the administration, development, and implementation of the Department of Transportation's roadside facilities/SWEF program. This position provides technical engineering expertise to assist in the development of the statewide Safety Rest Area (SRA), wayside, Safety and Weight Enforcement Facility (SWEF), and Virtual Weigh Station (VWS) facilities.
This position also provides engineering design and technical assistance to the Division of State Patrol for location, design, and maintenance of motor carrier enforcement facilities; provides coordination between the Division's highway improvement program and the State Patrol's motor carrier program; and provides engineering design and technical assistance relative to the operation and maintenance of rest area and wayside buildings, water supply systems, and sewage systems.

Salary Information
The Senior level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $80,870 to $99,403, plus excellent benefits.
The Advanced level is in schedule-range 14-13 with an annual salary of $90,064 to $108,950 plus excellent benefits. Plus, an additional $2,080 per year for a Professional Engineer License.
A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.
Job Details
This position requires occassional independent statewide travel with overnight stays.
WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States. WisDOT is not an E-verify employer.
Prior to any appointments for position(s) filled from this announcement, candidates may be subject to a comprehensive criminal background check which may include FBI fingerprinting.
This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from a DTSD office building at least two days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are still expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.
Qualifications
Minimum requirement: Upon application, candidate must have graduatedfrom an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) ABET accredited college or university with a 4-year bachelor's degree (or Master's or PhD) in engineering OR possess a PE license (registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin OR a valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state).
A minimally qualified candidate will also have a t least 4 years of engineering experience after receiving their engineering degree from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) ABET accredited college or University.
In addition to the above:
To be eligible at the Advanced level, candidates must have a valid Professional Engineering (PE) registration and the ability to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if PE registration is from another state.
