Job Title: Electrical Engineer II

Job Description

The Electrical Engineer II is responsible for executing Electrical Systems engineering assignments on new construction projects at Seaspan Shipyards. Under the direction of the Manager, Electrical Systems, the Electrical Systems Engineer participates in all phases of new construction design projects including requirements decomposition, design preparations, supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities.
Responsibilities
  • Provide engineering and design support in assigned areas of Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation Systems by preparing design and calculation packages to ensure contract design requirements are met.
  • Develop design documents such as Instrumentation and Controls Lists, Interface control diagrams, termination and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform trade studies both formal and informal to determine the most efficient solutions to engineering problems and meet material budgets for systems assigned. Find opportunities to reduce material costs below budget.
  • Develop material specifications and bills of material in accordance with material strategies and customer requirements.
  • Provide mentoring and technical advice to subordinate Engineers in the department.
  • Exercise good judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with crucial job functions.

  • Ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Above average analytical skills to gather and analyze/synthesize data.
  • Strong technical writing skills including the ability to produce and present clear, detailed written technical specifications, procedures, and reports.
  • Knowledge of MRP, purchasing, and management systems.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Availability and willingness to travel as required to meet business needs.
  • Commitment to a high standard of safety and compliance with all safety laws and policies.
  • Effective leadership and influence skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of post-secondary experience in Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Experience working in a heavy industry environment.
  • Experience working with a diverse integrated project team is considered an asset.
  • PC proficiency, including basic Microsoft Office 2010 software suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with cable pulling, electrical equipment, single line diagram, I&C, report writing, AutoCAD, electrical engineering, design, schematic, instrumentation, control system, PLC, HMI, VFD.
Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $45.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in North Vancouver,BC.
