Job Summary

The Technical Writer is a skilled professional level position where the work is primarily focused on the development of technical publications for ADTRAN products from inception to release, while adhering to established departmental and company standards, including pre-established guidelines, writing style, content organization, file maintenance, tracking processes, and all release processes.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop content requirements by working with other ADTRAN personnel, such as Engineers, Product Managers, Project Managers, and Salespersons; outside the company with customer technical personnel.
  • Adhere to established departmental and company standards, including pre-established guidelines, writing style, content organization, file maintenance, tracking processes, and all release processes.
  • Gather applicable information on product and product development cycle during independent, self-directed investigation and discovery.
  • Use internal corporate systems databases, inventory management tools, and archival storage systems for research and development.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and develop graphical requirements working with a Technical Illustrator.
  • Develop new and revised technical publications through all stages, from inception to release, while following established departmental and company standards, including writing style, content organization, file maintenance, tracking processes, and release processes.
  • Provide intra-departmental technical and project development support by disseminating information.
  • Drive SME reviews of technical publications.
  • Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Technical Writing, Technical Communications, English, Journalism, Communications, Information Architecture, Computer Science, or Engineering required
  • 5-8 years of prior experience in technical writing for hardware and software products
  • Familiarity with telecommunications concepts, practices, and procedures
  • 5+ years of previous experience with the following: Adobe- FrameMaker, Acrobat, and Illustrator; Microsoft Windows and Windows-based products.
  • No travel is expected for this position
Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
  • Knowledge of Internet technology a plus.
  • Knowledge of XML, markdown, RST a plus.
  • Knowledge of engineering development tools, like Git, a plus.
