What You Will Do

This position will report to the TA-55 Operations Manager, the main responsibilities of this position will be operational improvements for TA55 Operations or the FOD. The selected candidate will be assigned the Operations Center Supervisor qualification and will be delegated Shift Operations Supervisor (SOS) duties responsible for providing day-to-day oversight to the Operations Center team for periods of time. The SOS will be responsible for providing administration and supervision of day-to-day operations of ALDWP facilities at TA-55, ensuring the safe operation of the nuclear work and the status control of safety systems, work control/work release for all activities within PF-4 and support facilities and ensuring scheduled work is executed safely and as planned. The position will have input to performance grading but will not be responsible for evaluations.

This SOS will be assigned to a 24/7/365 rotating shift or modified shift to provide supervisor coverage for TA55. This role will ensure compliance with requirements documents and assist personnel in the facility work through problems with work execution.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Operational Systems: Demonstrated experience and understanding of the following aspects of operations management as applied to a Nuclear Facility: systems engineering, work control, hazard identification and analysis, formality of operations implementation, safety basis and TSR development and implementation, configuration management, maintenance management, project management as demonstrated through successful implementation of new activity approval, work control, work request, FSR processes, IWD reviews and approvals. Examples include but are not limited to procedure validations, periodic reviews or compliance reviews.

Leadership: Familiarity with acting as 'Person-in-Charge' or Leader during abnormal or emergent events.

Problem Solving: Experience and demonstrated skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting operations management.

Management: Experience in supervising multidisciplinary teams of technicians and/or professional staff in a technical environment.

Maintenance: Working knowledge of LANL conduct of maintenance, conduct of engineering, conduct of operations and quality assurance programs.

Policy and Procedure: Thorough understanding of the concepts and principles of Integrated Work Management, Integrated Safety Management (ISM) and Integrated Safeguards and Security Management (ISSM), or equivalent non-DOE programs, including experience reviewing, approving, and authorizing both facility and programmatic work as demonstrated through activity approval processes, IWD and work package reviews and approvals.

Training: Familiarity with training and qualification requirements.

Equipment: Demonstrated knowledge of facility process equipment and operation.

Compliance: Demonstrated management of operations to comply with Limiting Conditions of Operation (LCO) as specified in the Technical Safety Requirements (TSR), including the management and supervision of surveillances and inspections in support of DSA/TSR compliance.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 1 year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
DOE Order 426.2: Requires high school diploma and 3 years of Nuclear experience.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience with the development or revision of technical procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Laboratory's issues management process and performance measurement processes.
  • DOE 'Q' clearance

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, 712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
