Manager, Corporate Actuarial
Job Description
Purpose of Role
To oversee the actuarial valuation and reporting activities for all Canadian and overseas business in PL Re NA.
Job Responsibilities
Canada Branch management responsibilities:
- Keep current on actuarial standards of practice and regulatory requirements in Canada.
- Lead the development of the annual FCT as required by the Branch's stress-testing policy.
- Contribute to the Business Plan for the Branch.
- Contribute to the Capital Plan for the Branch, including regular assessment of the local solvency ratios.
- Contribute to the discussion on the Branch's new business offers.
- Engage in discussions on best estimate assumptions and IFRS 17 methodologies for the Branch.
Canadian Statutory Valuation and Reporting:
- Direct the team to determine quarterly reserves and capital requirements and capital ratios (IFRS 17 reporting and LIMAT).
- Create the quarterly analysis of surplus emergence and quarterly regulatory filings.
- Coordinate with the AA and work with the team to prepare annual Appointed Actuary Report and review various other year-end regulatory filings.
- Review and validate the implementation of annual assumptions change and other methodology refinements.
- Review and validate the results of valuation models for current year's new business.
- Review and validate the periodic updates to policy inforce data (currently AXIS valuation extract for Protection and Tyche valuation extract for longevity).
Quarterly Reporting - Other Bases:
- Valuation bases include EC/BMA, US GAAP, US Statutory and US Tax.
- Review and analyze the quarterly results for the Canadian and Overseas business on US GAAP, EC/BMA bases.
- Oversee the inputs to quarterly regulatory filings.
Manage the Canada team:
- Train and coach direct report(s).
- Work with the AVP to create a strong team environment.
- Work with the AVP to create a development plan for each team member.
Qualifications:
- FSA, FCIA or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of experience with life and health reinsurance and insurance products.
- Excellent understanding of Canadian and US actuarial methods and principles.
- Strong understanding of the regulatory environment.
- Enthusiasm to manage team members to give them the best opportunity to succeed.
- Knowledge of an actuarial software.
