We are looking for a data scientist who is passionate about opportunities to improve business processes for our Wood Products supply chain and the Sales & Marketing business. We have an integrated supply chain with our Timberlands business sourcing logs to our Wood Products business that manufactures products like lumber, OSB, and engineered lumber products that get sold thru our distribution network to 3rd party customers. This presents some very interesting and complex opportunities to solve for optimizing our supply chain and how we price and sell products into the market.

You have experience with optimizing pricing and/or supply chain processes and have analyzed large datasets to build advanced models that improve operations. You are skilled at analyzing and identifying areas for improving operational excellence and determining how to apply the appropriate advanced analytic solutions. You have a high attention to detail, but are good at seeing the big picture, and aren't afraid to think outside the box, and champion your ideas. You have experience articulating opportunity, as well as creating and successfully managing projects that drive operational excellence. You are effective at communicating timely and relevant information to business leaders and internal partners.

The position is part of our central Data & Analytics team and will be located in Seattle, WA.

Key Functions
  • Analyze and interpret large and complex data sets related to our Wood Products supply chain, sales, and pricing subject areas.
  • Evaluate opportunities to improve pricing realizations and understand the appropriate machine learning model or related solutions to apply.
  • Leverage advanced analytic models to improve and optimize our integrated Wood Products supply chain.
  • Implement and optimize machine learning models, including retraining and deployment, to ensure continuous improvement and accuracy. Evaluated model effectiveness through rigorous testing and performance metrics.
  • Create innovative insights and develop/maintain impactful reports, dashboards, and model outputs.
  • Present compelling, validated stories to all levels of our organization, including peers, senior management, and internal customers that communicate opportunities and drive strategic business initiatives.
  • Build cross-functional relationships to collaboratively partner within our business.


Qualifications
  • Prior research or development experience working with large and complex supply chain and sales data sets, solving problems with data, and experience building advanced analytic models including predictive models
  • Knowledge of supply chain management and dynamic pricing strategies.
  • Strong proficiency in programming environment and languages, specifically Python and R.
  • Strong working knowledge of machine learning and statistics, experience utilizing Python libraries
  • Experience utilizing data visualization tools such as Power BI
  • Cloud computing experience such as AWS, Azure, or Snowflake
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to excite business leaders on utility of these analytic tools for strategic business decision making.
Required
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning or related areas.
  • 2+ years of experience solving problems through statistical modeling, applied machine learning and data analysis.
Preferred
  • Have experience working with SAP or similar ERP systems
What We Offer

Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $106,900-$160,400 based on your level of skills, qualifications, and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 15% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company's 401(k) plan, which includes a paid company match on a per pay period basis. In addition, the company makes a retirement savings contribution of 5% of eligible earnings into the 401(k) Plan.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours.
