Description
This opening is for a full-time permanent position. Initial placement will be in our Special Assault Unit, which is responsible for the prosecution of crimes against children and sexual assaults. After initial placement in SAU, this position will be eligible for rotation to other units within the Criminal Division, subject to the needs of the office. We are open to filling at the DPA I, II, or III level and welcome applications from attorneys with a minimum of 4 years of criminal experience. Experience prosecuting sexual assault cases is preferred. This posting will remain open until filled.

The Criminal Division is responsible for prosecuting all adult and juvenile felonies that occur within Snohomish County, as well as misdemeanor and gross misdemeanors that occur in unincorporated areas.

Snohomish County offers a generous total compensation package. For example, total compensation for a full-time fifth year criminal deputy prosecuting attorney is $150,164.00This includes a gross annual salary of $111,916.00 and annual benefits with a current approximate value of $38,248.00. These benefits consist of medical, dental, vision, FICA, Medicare, Washington State Paid Family and Medical Leave, PERS (pension), disability insurance, and a limited employer-matching contribution for deferred compensation plan. This position provides for paid state and local bar dues, Prosecutor-sponsored CLEs, and may qualify for school or federal student loan forgiveness programs.
In addition to these benefits, first-year employees receive 96 hours of annual paid sick leave, 96 hours of annual paid vacation leave, 16 additional hours of annual floating holiday leave, and11 paid holidays. Lateral hires will accrue additional vacation leave at a higher rate based on years of service as a deputy prosecuting attorney.
The Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's Office also offers free secondary trauma training and support through Alderwood Counseling Associates, which includes quarterly office-wide trainings focusing on stress and secondary trauma, as well as drop-in psychotherapeutic counseling services. Counseling services include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Lifespan Integration Therapy, Talk Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR).
Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys are also eligible to receive yearly merit awards that can be as high as $4,000.00 and are also eligible for annual wage increases.

To perform the most difficult and complex professional legal tasks in the Criminal Division. This is an advanced range attorney classification in the Criminal Division of the Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Job Duties
STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs all of the duties of a Criminal Deputy Prosecuting Attorney I and II. Successfully manages cases at all stages of review, charging, trial preparation, trial, and pre- and post-trial motions; appropriately manages litigation costs. Supervises attorneys and support staff; works with attorneys and support staff to help them reach their professional potential; follows steps of progressive discipline where necessary; ensures timely completion of six month evaluations. Establishes and maintains effective and positive work relationships with groups and individuals inside and outside the office, particularly attorneys, support staff, Bench, Bar, county government, law enforcement agencies, and community. Understands that the paramount duty is to seek justice, keeps track of all costs associated with each case; while cost should never direct the action that will be taken on a case, the use of broad discretion regarding the allocation of resources must be considered; it is important to minimize officer overtime, witness costs, and extra fees while minimizing inconvenience to witnesses.

Minimum Qualifications

The employee reports to and receives direction from the attorney's Unit lead, an Assistant Chief Criminal Deputy Prosecutor, and the Chief Civil Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. The employee may work under the supervision and training of another Deputy Prosecuting Attorney and may be directed by an Assistant Chief or Chief Criminal Deputy to supervise one or more attorneys or support staff members. Work is evaluated through conferences, periodic reviews, and written evaluations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Most of the work is performed in a traditional office environment with frequent court appearances and periodic trips to outside locations to attend meetings, hearings, interviews, and to undertake other job-related responsibilities. The Prosecutor's Main Office is located on the Snohomish County Court Campus and is connected to the County Courthouse. The Special Assault Unit is located at Dawson Place Child Advocacy Center approximately four blocks from County Courthouse. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, from time-to-time particular assignments or specific components of the job may require work to be performed in the evenings, on weekends, and/or holidays when necessary to meet deadlines, complete tasks, and to be properly prepared for trial and related hearings.
To the extent their job responsibilities allow, after a six-month probationary period, employees are permitted to work remotely one day per week. A laptop computer and all necessary software are provided. Employees must have reliable connectivity and an appropriate workspace to telework.
