At its core, W365 and AVD provide business customers with a modern, elastic, cloud-based Windows experience, and the ability to stay current in a simplistic and scalable manner. The Windows Cloud team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer who will help take the Windows Cloud platform, as well as the Windows 365 Cloud PC and Azure Virtual Desktop business to the next level.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work on challenging distributed systems problems and build high-scale systems. You will get an amazing opportunity to help design and implement key new platform features in AVD and ensure that those features scale and are highly resilient. You will extend your knowledge of cloud compute, hypervisors, desktop virtualization, storage at scale, and other technical areas. You will be part of a team designing new platform capabilities involving virtualized compute, storage, networking for our core products to enhance the value to our customer base. You will also be a part of an agile team working with experienced engineers and product managers that behave more like a technology startup.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.

Responsibilities:
- Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios.
- Leads efforts and discussions for the architecture of aspects of products/solutions (e.g. design, cost). Creates design documents and leads testing of hypotheses and proposed solutions.
- Leads by example and mentors' others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products. Leads efforts to optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI). Identifies best practices and coding patterns and provides deep expertise in the coding and validation strategy.
- Leads efforts for creation and conducting of experimentation to determine the effectiveness of changes, monitors developments for prototyping and testing products, interprets results, and decides on next steps or ship decision from results.
- Designs and develops large scale distributed software services or Core OS (operating system) and Virtualization components.
- Adheres to and drive modern software engineering practices through designand codereviews.
- System design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code reviews,leveragingdata/telemetry to make decisions.
- Develops "best-in-class" engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the componentsarewell-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, activelymonitoredand reusable.
- Improves test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.
- Considers testability, portability/monitoring, reliability, and maintainability, and understand when code is ready to be shared and delivered.
- Gain a working understanding of Microsoftas abusiness and collaborate with mentors and leaderstocontribute to cohesive, end-to-end experiences for our users.
- Focuses on customer/partner needs through a data driven approach.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, C, C++, or C#
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience as a software engineer designing, implementing, and shipping cloud services or software products.
- Experience with Azure technologies including but not limited to Kubernetes and designing web services at scale including but not limited to web sockets.
- Understanding of security and compliance requirements.
- Experience setting up and managing Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
