The Vaccines & Immune Therapy Business Manager (VIBM) is a key member of the Vaccines & Immune Therapy Business Unit, playing a critical role in supporting AstraZeneca's customer engagement model. VIBMs are directly responsible for engaging with customers in ways which will positively impact and support public health programs.

What you'll do

VIBMs will work with local market stakeholders to understand and identify customer needs, proactively align products and services, support flu vaccine pull-through activities, and ensure that AZ is viewed as bringing value to healthcare professionals and their patients. The VIBM is also responsible for ensuring activities adhere to the spirit and letter of AstraZeneca Policies and US Laws and Regulations. This is a single-contributor customer-facing role with no direct reports and will report to the Area Customer Engagement Director, AZ Vaccines and Immune Therapy.

Use of clinical expertise to enhance the customer engagement and experience

  • Through all customer engagements, maintain an appropriate focus on the patient


  • Demonstrate knowledge of products, disease states, and healthcare trends to align on and meet customer needs


  • Appropriately use programs, resources and messaging with multiple stakeholders in each account, connecting influencers and decision makers to support and accelerate business decisions


  • Strategically utilize omnichannel reach and real time insights to orchestrate a continuous customer selling journey


  • As appropriate, assist customers with procurement options, product transition, product supply challenges or other organizational needs


Demonstrate Account Development in the private and public markets

  • Develop and maintain a business plan for identified accounts, tracking agreed upon metrics to evaluate regional performance and assess local strategy


  • Appropriately conduct customer business reviews with account stakeholders, discussing the impact of contracts in support of immunization programs and protocols


  • Maintain complete knowledge and understanding of AZ vaccine contract terms and conditions. Apply this knowledge and that of ordering patterns to optimize customer vaccine purchases which support treatment/prevention goals


  • Navigate complex accounts and understand interdependencies of protocols, personnel and departments; gain a deeper understanding of customer goals, challenges, opportunities and business potential


  • Embed brand strategy into account planning while understanding local trends, sales data and customer insight to maximize impact


  • Identify influential stakeholders within each account including their role as it pertains to the broader organization


  • Prioritize business opportunities to ensure maximum impact across many different types of customers including State Awardees, appropriate Grantees, IDNs (Integrated Delivery Networks)/Health Systems, & local market professional organizations (State American Academy of Pediatrics, AAP)


  • Lead the engagement of state level priorities and plans, sharing back appropriate direction to field team members


Lead cross-matrix collaborative efforts with multiple stakeholders to maximize impact

  • Identify and develop partnerships with matrix partners (National Account Directors; Field Educators; other AZ overlapping sales teams; etc.) to ensure continuous collaboration, insight exchange and strategy execution to best maximize business opportunities in key accounts


  • Ensure alignment of business goals and coordination of account strategy with cross matrix partners; operate according to established ways of working


  • Identify, act on and empower opportunities to build customer skills & capabilities of matrix team members


  • Understand how best to serve customers through appropriate engagement with Buying Groups and Distributor partners


  • Coordinate routine information exchanges with key AstraZeneca stakeholders, in order to best serve shared customers


Operate at the highest level of the role in accordance with VIBM Behaviors and Capabilities

  • Reach the right customers, the appropriate number of times to maximize business impact


  • Accurately and routinely document all call activity and appropriate information in our Customer Relationship Manager tools (i.e., Veeva)


  • Maintain thorough knowledge of AstraZeneca's products, programs and policies related to customer engagement


  • Fully comply with all laws, regulations and Supplier Policies, Code of Conduct, all privacy and data guidelines and relevant state and federal laws and regulations


Essential for the role

  • BS/BA accredited degree


  • 4+ years proven successful experience in pharmaceutical or biotech account management or specialty medicine/medical sales and a documented successful work history


  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills


  • Ability to work independently and lead others without direct report authority


Desirable for the role

  • Vaccines


  • Buy and Bill


  • Experience in Public Health and/or Pediatric/Infectious Diseases/Biologic Sales
