ASSOCIATE HEAD OF SCHOOL FOR ACADEMICS

The Associate Head of School for Academics (AHSA) is an expert educator and academic leader

responsible for providing direction and guidance over developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating a comprehensive liberal arts education, signature programs, and student services. The

AHSA shall champion a shared academic vision, inspire and support faculty, improve programs, and foster

teamwork, and school growth. The AHSA is part of the executive leadership team and reports directly

to the Head of School.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Create a positive school culture that promotes learning, teaching, and spiritual growth for students

and faculty.

Create an academic culture that respects the traditions of liberal arts education and current practice while also

promoting innovation in curriculum, assessment practices, pedagogy, and appropriate technology integration.

Manage Direct Reports - Department Chairs, Director of College Counseling, Director of Academic Operations

Oversee, support, and manage faculty.

Oversee the refinement and improvement of curriculum, instruction, and pedagogy in support of

our mission and strategic plan.

Oversee all academic processes, including registration, transcript maintenance, and database administration

(SIS, LMS, Naviance).

Serve as the primary instructional coach for teaching faculty.

Oversee the vision and implementation of shared practices with educational technology across departments.

Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate teaching faculty.

Develop and oversee a faculty professional development program; monitor, assist, and evaluate instruction

and assessment practices.

Maintain a comprehensive understanding of curricular and pedagogical trends and how these trends should be

addressed in the context of Pacifica's education model.

Collaborate with other departments (advancement, admissions, business office, head of school, facilities, parent

association, church, and athletics) to ensure overall school effectiveness.

Develop positive relationships with parents, administration, faculty, and board members.

Interact and serve with the parent community to develop and maintain positive relationships between school and home.

Collaborate with the Executive Team and Board of Trustees on strategic planning and implementation.

Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a data-driven plan for increasing student achievement,

including the use of multiple student data elements.

Attend board meetings at the request of the Head of School.

Leadership experience managing a team; excellent management skills and the ability to delegate tasks; ability to

make decisions and clearly communicate the decisions.

Has expertise in and a commitment to a liberal arts curriculum centered on Western Civilization, the integration of

faith and learning, and the cultivation of inquiry and rhetoric.

A dynamic leader who possesses a track record of developing and maintaining strong relationships with staff,

parents, and students; builds others up; committed to relationships defined by grace and truth; committed to

resolving conflict.

Ability to work as a team, promote unity, and bring others together.

Excellent oral and written communication skills including speaking in front of large groups.

Strong organizational skills; track record of planning ahead.

Versatility and adaptability to varying job demands.

Entrepreneurially minded with the ability to wear many hats and work in a growing organization.

Knowledge of innovations in education: alternative instructional strategies, alternative assessment methods,

education technology, and blended instruction.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree preferred
Executive administrative experience in a school; private school experience preferred; strong and proven track record.

Prior experience and effectiveness as a classroom teacher
