Location: Alternate locations may be considered. This position will work a hybrid model (remote and office). The ideal candidate will live within 50 miles of one of our PulsePoint locations.
The Specialty Underwriting Dir is responsible for overseeing underwriting activities across all Carelon Behavioral Health External business to ensure overall growth and profitability. Our ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Behavioral Health underwriting, covering both new business and renewals, with a solid grasp of pricing.

Requires a BS/BA in mathematics or a related field; Minimum 7 years of Large Group underwriting experience with emphasis on dental and vision products; or any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.

- Underwrites and prices complex new business and renewals for external Behavioral Health business.
- Serves as a subject matter and process expert.
- Continually improves underwriting and pricing procedures and implements revisions to existing policies.
- Promotes and ensures underwriting and pricing consistency among regions.
- Works with actuaries to develop and implement pricing of risk business.
- Develops and participates in training of underwriting staff and sales staff.
Minimum Requirements:

Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experience:
- Experience working in the managed care/healthcare insurance industry most notably in behavioral health underwriting strongly preferred.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, decision-making, problem-solving skills, and adaptability highly preferred.
- Experience interacting confidently with senior management and executive level stakeholders, as a subject matter expert and comfortable with influencing decision-making preferred.
- Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to negotiate expectations between multiple parties strongly preferred.
- Proficient of Microsoft Office products Excel, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word strongly preferred.
