Job Summary/Overview:

As the Supplier Engineering Manager, you will lead a talented team of Supplier Engineers dedicated to designing, developing, and validating manufacturing solutions for Direct Material component and assembly manufacturing processes and ensuring scale-up of robust manufacturing solutions to support long-term production. This role will work both internally and externally to develop Johnson and Johnson's next generation of Robotic & Digital Solutions and will mentor/develop junior engineers.

The successful candidate will have the ability to run a team and comprehend and solve complex issues associated with the supplier manufacturing process, quality, and business inter-relationships. This person will develop supplier quality systems and manufacturing processes to sustain suppliers and parts effectively. Good project management skills are vital to work on multiple projects with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of supplier engineers in strategic supplier selection, evaluation, development, and improvement with the goal of establishing and maintaining a high-performing, long-term, sustainable production supply chain.
  • The team is responsible to:
    • Own and deliver the development, characterization, and validation of mechanical and/or electrical components and sub-assembly processes at outside suppliers for new product development (NPD) projects within the Robotics and Digital Solutions franchise.
    • Lead the scale-up of supplier manufacturing processes to production quantities.
    • Work in a design team setting, collaborating with multi-functional teams (represented by Manufacturing Engineering, R&D, Purchasing, Quality, Supply Chain, Marketing, and Finance) by providing technical solutions to direct material component manufacturing and assembly processes that are optimized for manufacturing, product performance, and cost.
    • Analyze and resolve manufacturing issues related to design, quality, and functionality of Direct Material component and sub-assembly processes throughout the NPD process.
    • Identify, manage, and provide priorities and direction to external suppliers to satisfy manufacturing and development requirements for tooling, manufacturing, and inspections of direct material components.
    • Responsible for ensuring robust requirements' cascade from Design to Supplier.
    • Resolve systemic supply chain issues affecting quality, cost, delivery, or lead-time, which may include engagement with sub-tiers in the supply chain.

Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • A minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical field (for example, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, etc.)
  • Required:
    • A minimum of eight (8) years of meaningful related work experience
    • A minimum of two (2) years of experience leading supplier development or supplier quality engineering teams, or leadership in equivalent areas
    • Proven track record of leading teams to solve complex technical and process problems
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations to executives
    • Understanding of manufacturing process characterization, development, and validation,
    • Knowledge of document management systems and ERP Systems, preferably Agile and SAP
    • Strong understanding of manufacturing technologies; Plastic injection molding, Machining, Extrusion, SMT, PCB, Electrical Cables, or assembly preferred
  • Preferred:
    • Solid understanding of regulatory requirements regarding the design, build, and release of medical devices, worldwide
    • Proven ability in New Product Introduction and rapid scaling in production
    • Proficient root cause investigation, inspection, and test techniques
    • Experience with supplier management, supplier qualification/selection, and process improvement with suppliers
    • Understanding of engineering drawing interpretation, i.e., GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
    • Solid understanding of quality requirements/documents such as statistical process control, capability analysis, FMEA's, etc.
    • Understanding of product design & DFM/A (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly)
    • Experience in gage and fixture design and development
    • Experience with Solidworks and ASME Y14.5 drafting standards
    • Understanding of Six Sigma Methodologies
    • GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) & ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 9000/13485, & CFR Title 21 Part 820
  • Other:
    • Up to 30% domestic and international travel

The anticipated base pay range for this position is :
114,000.00 - 229,000.00 USD Annual

Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis. Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance. Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)). This position is eligible to participate in the Company's long-term incentive program.
