Housing & Food Services ("HFS") has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director, Student Care & Conduct to serve as a member of the UW Residential Life Leadership Team and is responsible for student conduct process and care initiatives within Residential Life. We seek a leader who will build on our successes and continue to refine and improve services to our students, staff, faculty and guests, drawing inspiration from our customers and strategic priorities.

Responsibilities include:

Unit Leadership
Establishes annual priorities and strategies for the Student Care & Conduct Team.
Participate in short and long-range planning, developing goals and objectives for the Residential Life unit and areas of responsibility.
Serve as a strategic leader to engage in strategic planning, identifying and meeting the goals outlined in Residential Life's unit priorities, and engaging in action planning after identifying areas of improvement within the larger Residential Life unit.
Identifies areas of improvement in both areas of student conduct and care; create actionable strategies to enhance programs, policies, and processes.
Reviews and updates Residential Life content on the HFS website, including providing annual updates and ensuring accuracy of information.
Manages coordinated activities for advising students and their families regarding campus housing eligibility requirements and with delegated authority determines acceptable variances from housing standards and recommends alternative courses of action.
Participates in recruitment, selection and training of all Residential Life Staff. Serves as the hiring manager for direct reports when vacancies arise.
Prepares and transmits statistical data as part of the University's effort to maintain compliance with federal reporting laws.
Works with other HFS departmental units, specifically the Student Services Office and the HFS Facilities team to ensure delivery of services to residents.
Participates in Administrator On-Call rotation to consult and respond to cases including, but not limited to: student death, threats, bias, violence, assault, conflict, suicide attempt, suicide ideation, depression, and facilities related emergencies such as fire or flooding.
Develops and implements program policies and procedures related to crisis and emergency management, care services, compliance, and student conduct.
Prepares written reports and documents.
Serves on Departmental and University committees as designated including: Application, Agreement & Assignments Committee; Title IX Working Committee; Clery Steering Committee; and Campus Care Teams.
Serves as a departmental representative to campus partners including, but not limited to the Counseling Center, Safe Campus, LiveWell, Community Standards and Student Conduct, Assistant Vice President for Student Life, Office of the ADA Coordinator, and others to ensure appropriate referrals and an effective response to student needs.

Program Development
Oversees the emergency evacuation and ADA evacuation processes and procedures of the Residential Life Unit.
Directs the planning, implementation and assessment of the Residential Life Conduct Process including response to cases that include, but are not limited to noise complaints, alcohol or drug use, bias incidents, threats of harm to others, and other alleged violations of community standards as outlined in the housing agreement.
Directs the planning, implementation and assessment of Residential Life staff incident response including response of student leaders and full-time staff to incidents involving students of concern, an alleged violation of community standards, and crisis/emergency situations impacting the residential community.
Directs the planning, implementation and assessment of student care for residential students including outreach and overall case management from cases involving students of concern. This can include, but is not limited to depression, homesickness, harm to self or others, students experiencing psychosis, and students navigating mental health concerns.
Directs the implementation and assessment of compliance for residential students.
Directs annually the review, research and assessment of all aspects of the student care and conduct program.
Directs the planning, implementation, and assessment of Residential Life On-Call procedures, including chairing the On-Call Resources Committee, coordinating On-Call scheduling for 24/7 coverage including breaks, and resources and training for student and professional staff.
Assess risk to the residential community and the institution when responding to high level crisis and student of concern situations.
Oversees Residential Life processes for accommodations, including reservable kitchens and service and emotional support animals.

Supervision
Directly supervises five professional Residential Life staff members: Specialist for Conduct & Incident Response; three Specialists for Student Care; and one full-time classified staff member: Student Care & Conduct Program Coordinator.
Provides supervision for Psychologist Liaison regarding management of students of concern; assists in coordinating student care training for Residential Life staff.
Directs Residential Life professional staff on conduct and care procedures.
Provides consultation on high level conduct, care and compliance procedures.

Other Functions
Maintains an awareness of current issues and developments within the field of University student housing, student affairs, student conduct and compliance, and student care.
Serves as a member of the Residential Life Leadership Team.
Serve on HFS and Residential Life committees in an effort to continually enhance the residential experience for students as well as the experience student leaders/staff.
Attends professional development workshops and training seminars held within HFS and the Division of Student Life.
Participates in local, regional and national professional organizations.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

The position works a regular Monday through Friday schedule; however, it requires some evening and weekend commitments throughout the year including on-call responsibilities approximately 6 weeks per year. Position involves program and project management, chairing workgroups, leading meetings, facilitating training, and speaking publicly.

Position Complexities

HFS Residential Life houses over 9,300 students in residence halls and apartments. This position is responsible for program development, and the operationalizing of student development and applied environmental theory within this complex and quickly evolving environment.

Impact to the University

The position serves the University by establishing and promoting standards of conduct that are conducive to the pursuit of academic goals and the welfare of the academic community and coordinating care and support for students in residential communities. Furthermore, the position serves to ensure that residents living within specified areas of University housing are eligible based on standards established by the University and the State of Washington. The position also assists the University's effort to maintain compliance with federal reporting laws by preparing and transmitting statistical data

Requirements include:
Master's degree in student development or related
Three years of full-time post graduate residence hall experience, student apartment related experience, or student conduct and case management experience required

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
