American Express Technology Business Enablement team enables us to transform Product Development practices through strategic frameworks, processes, tools and actionable insights.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, TBE you will be part of the TBE Data Engineering Team that Develop, provide, and monitor tools and services that underpin the Agile Delivery, Technology Investment, Software Capitalization processes, and supporting data. The team also delivers comprehensive Technology Business Enablement (TBE) Insights and Reporting into the health of our products and portfolio.

Responsible for leading an Data engineering team within the Technology Business Enablement engineering team responsible for TBE Data sourcing, analytics, insights.

As a Senior Engineering Manager, TBE you will be part of the TBE Data Engineering Team that Develop, provide, and monitor tools and services that underpin the Agile Delivery, Technology Investment, Software Capitalization processes, and supporting data. How will you make an impact in this role?
Responsible for leading an Data engineering team within the Technology Business Enablement engineering team responsible for TBE Data sourcing, analytics, insights.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Engineering Director and lead a scrum team of Data engineers working closely with the global engineering teams around building Data capabilities for American Express Developer in an Agile model.
- Manage a local Scrum team in collaboration with global Engineering and product organization.
- Collaborate with global Product, Engineering and Ops teams to build, prune, and execute the roadmap to the Organizational goals.
- Develop and maintain a high calibre team that can design and develop high quality products for American Express
- Partner locally with local AET (American Express Technology) teams to guide and assist in design and develop modern application architectures.
- Liaise effectively with the product teams and establish highly collaborative, productive, partnerships with stakeholders.
- Keep up with the latest industry research and emerging technologies to ensure we are appropriately leveraging new techniques and capabilities.
- Ensure product releases are high quality, deliver excellent user experiences, perform seamlessly at scale, and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Design and develop solutions using Bigdata tools and technologies like Hive, Spark etc.
- Extensive hands-on experience in object-oriented programming using Python, PySpark APIs etc.
- Experience in building data pipelines for huge volume of data.
- Experience in designing, implementing, and managing various ETL job execution flows.
- Experience in implementing and maintaining Data Ingestion process.
- Hands on experience in writing basic to advance level of optimized queries using HQL, SQL & Spark.
- Hands on experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining Data Transformation jobs using most efficient tools/technologies.
- Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of solutions.
- Participate in code reviews to maintain code quality.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven engineering delivery experience working with global teams.
- Understanding of Cloud native principles and microservices application architectures
- Experience in building and architecting API driven platforms with good understanding of application development languages/platforms (Java, .NET, Go, Python, etc.)
- Must have experience of Kubernetes, Openshift, infra as code frameworks, API Gateways, CNCF technologies, CI/CD tools, Cloud Native application architectures, and various public cloud services like AWS, GCP, Azure
- Professional Certifications in Public Cloud and/or CNCF related technologies preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Object Oriented programming using Python.
- Experience with GCP data services.
- Experience with ETL jobs design principles.
- Solid understanding of HQL, SQL and data modelling.
- Knowledge on Unix/Linux and Shell scripting principles.
- Familiarity with Git and version control systems.
- Knowledge of software development best practices and design patterns.
- Thorough understanding of Agile principles and processes
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related science discipline or relevant experience.
