This is professional work responsible for transportation planning.
This position involves moderately to difficult professional and technical work in transportation planning under general supervision. In addition, work entails the evaluation, selection, and application of standard transportation planning techniques, procedures, and design of transportation projects. An employee will use sound professional and independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications to professional techniques and principles to recurring problems, in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Limited supervision may be exercised over staff, clerical personnel, or designee. Supervision is received from a higher-level administrator, who reviews work through consultation and analysis of reports prepared. This job is not of a routine, clerical or ministerial nature and may require attendance at evening meetings including presentations to the city boards, neighborhood groups and other agencies as necessary.
Essential Functions
Prepares and presents project outlines, selection of data sources, and details of plans for reports of capital improvements, elements of a master plan, traffic impact or transportation safety analyses.
Provides investigations, and preliminary recommendations on current transportation planning projects. Including the transportation master plan, transit development, bicycle and pedestrian safety and mobility plan.
Support studies and planning activities related to multi-modal transportation projects.
Designs less complex projects.
Conduct transportation and land use related research.
Researches and investigates variables which may affect projects.
Coordinates with various transportation agencies and City departments for planning studies.
Prepares and reviews preliminary, final plans, preliminary cost estimates, and specifications.
Prepares grant applications and monitors program activities under way.
Conducts field surveys and inspections.
Gathers and correlates preliminary data and information.
Assists in the analysis and interpretation of moderately difficult data pertaining to the formulation of a transportation plan, and transit routes.
Perform technical analysis utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) modeling tools.
Assists in the formulation of financial and legal documents and/or contracts for assigned projects between the City and other agencies.
Composes forms which accompanies request for proposals delivered to private bidders.
Provides routine information to the public concerning public works projects in progress.
Performing other related work as required.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Planning, Urban Studies, Architecture, Engineering, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or a closely related field and two (2) years of transportation planning experience. Master's degree in an aforementioned or related field is preferred. A Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources. Possession of the Engineer-In-Training Certificate is desired.

Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of the required experience.
