We're looking for a Senior Director, Building Engineering & Facilities Operations to lead the daily operations and long-term strategy of more than 150 locations across the U.S., including donor centers, cleanroom laboratories, and office spaces.

In this role, you'll ensure our buildings support the critical work happening inside them-whether that's collecting life-saving blood, conducting scientific research, or producing biotherapies. You'll oversee the performance and safety of essential systems like HVAC, plumbing, and cleanroom environments, while leading a team of engineers and technicians across the country.

We're seeking a strategic, hands-on leader who brings technical expertise, strong project management skills, and a passion for operational excellence in support of our life-saving mission.

This position will have a hybrid work environment operating from the Scottsdale, AZ location 3 days per week with flexibility to work remotely/ from an at-home office 2 days per week.

As a Senior Director, Building Engineering & Facilities Operations, you'll get to:

  • Lead, mentor, and support a nationwide team of facility managers, technicians, and staff.
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies and best practices to drive operational excellence.
  • Oversee budgets, project timelines, and resource planning for engineering and facility operations.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture built on accountability and communication.
  • Ensure cleanroom systems are compliant, calibrated, and performing efficiently.
  • Manage and maintain critical infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and cleanroom utilities.
  • Develop preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend the life of facility assets.
  • Oversee contractors and vendors to ensure quality, reliability, and safety across all building systems.
  • Lead engineering and facility projects from planning through execution, keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technology to optimize systems and facility performance.
  • Drive sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives across all locations.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards through regular audits and inspections.


Requirements

Knowledge/ Education

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related field).
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and automation.
  • Working Knowledge of ISO standards and other relevant certifications related to cleanroom and facility operations.


Licenses/ Certifications

  • Related professional engineering registration (e.g., PE) is preferred.
  • Related professional certification such as CFM, LEED, or PMP is preferred.


Experience

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in facilities engineering to include:
    • 5 years leading and supervising teams.
    • Experience in building engineering, with a proven track record of managing cleanroom facilities and infrastructure.
    • Experience with laboratory facilities, particularly in environments with stringent cleanroom requirements with cGMP experience
    • Experience with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems and Facilities Building Management Systems (BMS) (e.g., Johnson Control Metasys, Siemens Desigo CC).
    • Experience in managing large-scale, multi-location facility operations.

  • Advanced proficiency with Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems and Facilities Building Management Systems (BMS) (e. e.g., Johnson Control Metasys, Siemens Desigo CC).
  • Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Good supervisory skills with the ability to effectively utilize and develop personnel to execute job tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management and provide consistently high levels of customer service.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, problem solving, negotiating, and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to travel (20%) of the time to oversee operations and projects at various facility locations across the United States.
