Position Information
The purpose of this classification is to oversee and coordinate and manage various members of staff, oversee special projects, assist in overall Public Safety initiatives, and provide assistance to the Director of Public Safety as needed.
Essential Functions
Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff: develops and oversees employee work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and control; compiles and reviews timesheets; approves/processes employee concerns and problems and counsels or disciplines as appropriate; assists with or completes employee performance appraisals; directs work; acts as a liaison between employees and management; and trains staff in operations, policies, and procedures.
Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; prioritizes and schedules work activities in order to meet objectives; ensures that subordinates have the proper resources needed to complete the assigned work; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; consults with assigned staff to assist with complex/problem situations and provide technical expertise; provides progress and activity reports to management; and assists with the revision of procedure manuals as appropriate.
Researches and advises on policy: reads all policy papers received; interprets policies and procedures; consults with County staff and other governmental and community organizations.
Manages department: reviews departmental reports, processes correspondence by mail, fax and phone calls and assigns or responds; develops all written material sent on behalf of the commissioner; prepares minutes of meetings.
Provides leadership: represents the Director of Public Safety and the various Public Safety Department(s)as needed; to include serving on various committees.
Communicates with citizens, staff at all levels of government, School Board and County employees: attends community meetings; facilitates resolution of constituent complaints and assists in resolution of employee issues; provides advice and recommendations for complex issues.
Assist in creating and managing Agency budget and Strategic Planning: ?advises on capital improvement decisions, makes recommendations for budget requests; maintains overall strategic plans and other associated activities.
Coordinates special events and projects: directs planning; assists in identifying resources.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree supplemented by five years of experience in a Public Safety related field, to include lead or supervisory experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Licenses and Certifications
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia driver's license. Georgia POST certification (Police, E911), or Georgia Fire Certification is preferred.
Physical Abilities
Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors
Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
