The anticipated salary range for this role is between $228,000.00 and $260,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The "Head of FCC Technology" at SMBC is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the technology strategy for Financial Crimes Compliance (FCC). This role involves leading a team of technology professionals within JRIA to develop, implement, and maintain systems and solutions that support the bank's compliance with Financial Crimes regulations, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the technology strategy for FCC, ensuring alignment with the bank's overall compliance objectives, regulatory requirements and overall SMBC governance and standards requirements. Look for continuous improvement opportunities through automation and simplification of all current activities.
  • Technology Management: Oversee the design, development, and implementation of technology solutions that support FCC operations, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and case management systems. Arrange proper support, coverage and staffing plans for all implementation activities and organization commitments. Direct department staffing needs (e.g. interviewing, hiring, new hire and ongoing training, annual evaluations, etc.). Participate in budget planning, initiation, and monitoring of expenses. Participate in the planning, implementation, testing and documentation of Technology Recovery Plans to support continuity objectives as defined by business and service managers. Closely manage our external vendor contracts, plans and proposals and hold them accountable for all deliverables.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of technology professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Ensure team member activities comply and are aligned with all strategic directives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders, including FCC business leaders, internal technology teams, internal audit, external vendors and suppliers, to ensure technology solutions meet SMBC and regulatory standards and business needs.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technology-related risks, ensuring the security and integrity of FCC systems and data.
  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of technology projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Provide written reports to management regarding project status, tasks, and issues/risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay abreast of regulatory changes and industry best practices, ensuring FCC technology solutions remain compliant with evolving requirements.

Note that this role requires an on-site presence on a hybrid schedule.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in technology management, with a focus on FCC or a related area.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven track record of leading and managing technology teams and projects, with strong strategic and operational leadership capabilities.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth hands-on knowledge of FCC technology solutions, including AML systems, sanctions screening tools, and case management solutions. Detail oriented with excellent problem-solving abilities and ability to perform under pressure in a challenging environment.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial crimes regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
