Reporting to the Supervisor of Aquatics and Fitness, the Aquatic Coordinator is accountable for the development, design, supervision, administration and implementation of the Town's aquatic programs, including marketing/promotion/sponsorship within the Recreation branch and volunteer management.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs for winter, spring, summer, fall, march break, holiday and PA Day registered and drop in programming for residents of all ages. This involves in water components, training to the standard level of awards required for this position, and overseeing the delivery of aquatic programs including in water mentoring and supporting staff and participants.
  • Respond to inquiries and information requests from the general public, businesses, and other agencies.
  • Foster engagement by providing consultation, training and assistance to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide day-to-day hands-on coordination, guidance and support for community engagement processes, policies, practices and project initiatives to meet operational needs and corporate service standards.
  • Assist with developing program opportunities that integrate persons with a disability and facilitate access to recreation programs? at the neighborhood community level.
  • Monitor program registration information including reconciliation, confirmations, wait listings and program status reports and process program registration information by utilizing the ActiveNet system as required.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with internal Town staff and external stakeholders, regulatory agencies, government and non-government agencies, associations and the public.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of a community-based volunteer management program to recruit, place, retain and recognize volunteers involved in aquatic programming, events and other related Town initiatives.
  • Implement departmental policies and procedures to ensure efficient operation, participant safety and responsible risk management.
  • Complete thorough Incident and Accident reports and conduct appropriate follow-up.
  • Complete staff scheduling, facility permitting, equipment purchases, etc.
  • Approve and submit bi-weekly payroll for all aquatic part-time, casual and summer staff.
  • Participate in the administration of the Town's community subsidy policy with special emphasis on confidentiality and sensitivity to personal information and consistent with eligibility criteria, application guidelines and report as required making recommendations to Council on eligible recipients.
  • Assist with the delivery of internal Town employee engagement events which includes social committee and wellness committee events.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • The successful candidate will have 1-3 years' municipal experience designing, implementing, and managing the delivery and measurement of aquatic programs; with proven experience planning and delivering programs with and/or for diversified audience groups and individuals. The successful candidate will also possess the following:
  • Post secondary diploma in recreation leadership and/or other related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The successful candidate will require the following certifications:
    • Standard First Aid and CPR-C
    • Class G Driver's License
    • Current Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid Instructor Certification
    • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard (Pool) Certification
    • Current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Certification
    • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification
    • Current Lifesaving Society Examiner status (Bronze Family)
    • Lifesaving Society Aquatic Supervisor Certification
    • Must hold at least one advanced instructor/examiner certification
    • Aquafitness certification of CALA or WaterArt would be an asset
  • *Candidate is required to perform skills evaluated in these qualification at any time while at the workplace
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Occupiers Liability Act, the Day Nurseries Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with a Disability Act and other safety/employment legislation, regulations and guidelines.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office utilizing word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software, Adobe Reader, and Microsoft Outlook software, Activenet, social media and the Internet.
  • Must hold an Ontario Class "G" valid driver's license in good standing along with the ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

Salary Range: $80,717- $94,962 (Band 6)
