California has established a globally recognized network of 124 Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to protect the diversity and abundance of the state's marine life, the habitats they depend on, and the integrity of marine ecosystems.

The Senior Environment Scientist Supervisor oversees CDFW's Statewide MPA Management project and works collaboratively with California Native American Tribes and interested parties to achieve the goals of California's Marine Life Protection Act. In this position, you will lead and manage a dynamic statewide team and work with partners to implement the four pillars of MPA Management Program: outreach and education, research and monitoring, policy and permitting, and enforcement and compliance. Duties require strong leadership, project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Position will be filled in the following multiple counties: Humboldt, Santa Rosa, San Mateo, Yolo, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Orange, and San Diego.

Working Conditions
Most work will be sitting for long periods of time using a computer keyboard, attending meetings virtual or in-person meetings. This position offers the possibility of an office-centered telework agreement based on the Department's current Telework Policy.Travel may be required within the state of California via private or public transportation (i.e., automobile, airplane, etc.). Travel may be subject to short notice deployment with overnight stays which is dependent upon departmental needs. Occasional work in the marine environment deploying research gear and handling wildlife.

Only the following office locations will be considered for this position : Eureka, Santa Rosa, San Carlos, West Sacramento, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Seal Beach, and San Diego.

Special Requirements Knowledge of California's Marine Protected Areas Network and Management Program, including CDFW's management role and policies related to marine resource management. Experience developing and conducting scientific research related to California marine resources and ecosystems. Ability to apply critical thinking skills to analyze and solve difficult technical problems, and effectively present recommendations and information. Demonstrated ability to act independently and lead multi-disciplinary teams. Ability to work effectively and communicate with individuals of differing backgrounds, opinions, and skill levels.
