POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Specialist will support NA-90's Office of Chief of Staff by designing and delivering high-quality communication materials. The ideal candidate will have strong graphic design and PowerPoint expertise, an understanding of federal stakeholder environments, and the ability to translate complex, technical information into clear, concise, and impactful messaging tailored for a variety of audiences including Capitol Hill. This position requires an individual with excellent visual communication skills, strong initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple high-priority products simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the development and design of recurring NA-90 communications products, including:
    • Monthly NA-90 Office Reports (template-driven)
    • NA-90 Fact Sheets and Initiative One-Pagers
    • Standardized NA-90 Strategic Briefings
    • Executive-level summaries of major infrastructure programs
  • Create visually compelling presentations and infographics using Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, and other software that clearly convey mission priorities, metrics, and strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with NA-90 leadership and technical subject matter experts to develop clear, audience-specific messaging tailored to stakeholders such as:
    • Congressional staffers
    • NNSA and DOE senior leadership
    • Field offices and Site partners
  • Translate highly technical material into plain language products that tell a compelling story aligned with NA-90 priorities and enterprise impact.
  • Support communications planning, stakeholder engagement strategies, and editorial guidance across NA-90 programs.
  • Ensure brand, formatting, and voice consistency across all communications products.
  • Develop templates, SOPs, and guides to streamline recurring communications.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Public Affairs, English, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in strategic communications, graphic design, public affairs, or a related federal support function.
  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex topics into accessible, engaging written and visual content.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a keen attention to detail and tone.
  • Experience working with or supporting senior government executives and/or Congressional audiences.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE clearance.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience supporting a federal infrastructure or technical program (e.g., DOE/NNSA).
  • Experience developing communications strategies or supporting communications in government agencies.
  • Familiarity with NNSA's mission and M&O contractor model.
  • Master's degree in communications, public policy, English, or related field.


LOCATION: This is an on-site position in Washington, DC.
